First of all, it's "aren't" not "aint".

Secondly, I eat neck bones, ham hocks, etc, because it is part of my heritage and tradition. I do put turkey legs in some foods instead of the more "fatty" alternatives I grew up with. But there are times when I want something cooked like my Grandmother made it. I don't have her anymore as of Aug 8, 2006, but this is a way I can bring back some of the happiest memories of her teaching me how to make what you call "slave food" and what she called "food we ate to survive".

And it's not necessarily that "we have to eat this" it's a choice, for most of us. But there are some (black, white, and other) who eat what they can afford, so it is not fair to generalize.

i don't eat it either. However, i can't say it bothers me as much as it appears to bother you. Tradition, whether born out of a ucked up situation or not, tends to hold people in certain kinds of patterns. Just as our people continue to eat the scraps, so do we constantly judge each others' behaviors, appearance and so on....just like white society did/does for so long. Seems human beings are susceptible to repeating pattens- even when they ar bad for us.
maybe you write a cookbook for black people that is healthy and tasty, with a little tradition here and there....or host a dinner party for your freinds featuring goodies from high on the hog.....or no hog at all.

I liked your question.

The history of your people has entailed them eating these types of things throughout their whole lives. If my mother eats white cheese but won't eat orange cheese, and therefore does not have orange cheese in the house, normally i will not buy it when it's my decision.
The same rule applies here. If your great grandparents ate pigs ears and gave them to their children, and in turn they gave them to you, then you will eat them as well.

It's not necessarily a sociological issue, more than it's tradition. It's nothing to get angry about, it's something your people enjoy.

I'm sure you look at some of the things chinese people eat (like cat) and cringe, and i'm sure they look at white people's food and cringe as well. You've just stepped out of the line of tradition and taken matters in to your own hands. You're unique in that sense.

do you know how ignorant you sound, mind you i don't eat, pig ears or feet because I cant stand the taste, but neck-bones can be used to spice up collard greens etc and not only blacks eat these. answer this question-if you were homeless or held against your will would you eat these things-my guess would be yes as every person of every race would do the same-WAKE UP

Many cultures (regional instead of racial) have foods unique to that culture. Parts of Cambodia and Laos still consume snakes and snake blood. It's not eating any ones scraps but instead it's eating foods which their ancestors have eaten for generations. The foods you mention are not unique solely to black people. Many rural southern white people eat some of these foods also. Many parts of our nations black culture originated not only during the slave era but also in the reconstruction era in which many southerners were poor (white and black.

Many people around the world enjoy this kind of food, if you don't like it, just don't eat it. I don't think that gastronomic preferences means that a person is worth more or less...

I think you'll find certain foods are cultural and have a history. Referring to them as 'scraps' and 'white man's meat' is insulting to african americans (or 'blacks people' if we're not trying to be overly PC) and you referring to them as such only shows your ignorance on the matter.
