Hi Im an intern for a major company. Recently, I have been assigned to assist a representative with a presentation for potential clients. We will have an audience of thirty execs- one is a vegetarian and another is a vegan.

I was going to order a sandwich platter from a nearby deli (but since i love meat n eat it all the time) wasn't sure what to order for a vegan.

Please help me- this is a really important project to our company and our meeting is in two weeks so i need to come up with a menu to submit ASAP as in this week by Friday but preferrably the end of the day today.

Hey girl - Don't sweat it!

There are always tons of options for your vegan co-workers. I am a vegan, and I usually just appreciate that someone made the effort, even if it was just chopped veggies and fruits.

But to have a nice platter of foods, here's what I would do:
1. Do a Yahoo.com search for vegan restaurants and delis or places with vegan options at their establishments. For instance I noticed you're from Washington D.C. - I'm not sure if this is where you work, but here are some resources for vegan fare I found for you:
http://www.vegdc.com/restaurants.php

or 2.
Almost all ethnic restaurants have some option - Be sure to let your fingers do the walking around, and call any place with asian cuisine, middle eastern cuisine, or tropical cuisine and check to see if they are 1, familar with the vegan diet, and 2, if they have anything to offer for your meeting. The importan thing is be absolutely sure it is vegan - I know that I tend to be skeptical when people bring a dish that they "think" is vegan.

Enjoy and good luck!

Vegans eat absolutely no animal products like butter, cheese, eggs, milk, honey, or meat. Also, make sure the veggies don't touch the cheese or meat on the platter. It's better to have them on separate platters. Cheese tray, meat tray, veggie tray, bread tray. Have the condiments in separate containers. (mayo cup, mustard cup with a utensil for each). Vegetarians eat what vegans don't except eggs and meat. Hummus is good for both as a protein substitute. Make sure everything for the v's doesn't touch the animal products at all. Make sure the bread isn't made with butter because it's made from milk which is an animal product.

Vegan's eat no animal byproducts whatsoever. If your in a trendy college area you should have no problems look for a restaurant that caters to vegetarians they will have vegan cusine. Also check the locations of a natural grocers most of them have a small deli you could order from. If you have a Wholefoods or Wild Oats they can help you. If not try a local caterer like myself. Most are glad for even the smallest parties of catering jobs. I do not know where you are located but if you are in Orange County CA try the gypsyden.com or just browse the menu for ideas. Hope this helps you out.

Falafal should be vegan. Also, there are many great vegan and vegetarian Indian dishes. Ask the deli or restaurant what items they offer that are vegan. If they don't know what you are talking about, then go someplace else.

Hummus on a whole grain pita/wrap or bread with fresh veggies (mixed greens, tomato, cucumber, peppers). Or you could do brown rice and beans or steamed veggies and brown rice from a chinese rest.

Hope this helps.

Falafel sandwiches or pita and hummous and veggies (very filling).

Polenta in some form.

A garbanzo bean salad or something with garbanzos.

Rice and beans (really).

Have you thought of Asian food? You should have many tofu choices with Asian food.

Good luck.
