It is a machine that delivers continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). It help with sleep apnea by delivering pressure to the upper airway to keep the soft tissue in the throat from occluding the airway. Keeping the upper airway open prevents sleep apnea.

Im an LPN from indiana and have taken care of pts on C-PAP. It is a sort of face mask worn at night, sometimes just over the nose and it stands for continous positive airway pressure. It is supposed to help ensure that the pts oxygen levels don't dip at night like with sleep apnea, or other resp problems. I have heard of adults who say they have never slept better once they get used to it. any other questions?

CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Air Pressure. It's generally used for those with sleep apnea/dyspnea. It simply blows humidified air into the airway of a person all the time. I've never heard of one that just does oxygen (which could be really dangerous if it's only oxygen).

It is a machine that individuals who have sleep apnea wear during sleep. One of my brother's & a friend of mine both use one & say it's amazing how well they sleep with it. My bro said he never knew what it felt like to get a good night's sleep 'till he got his c-pap machine.
