If you have both hypertension and dyslipidemia then it is not extreme. Caduet (amlodipine and atorvastin) is designed to treat both.

Caduet is a combination of a Lipitor and Norvasc. A anti-hyperlipidemic and a blood pressure medication. I would not think to second guess your physician without knowing your medical history and doing a physical exam.

I think the thing you have to ask yourself is why at age thirty do you require treatment for both hyperlipidemia and hypertension? I would be willing to bet there are some lifestyle changes that you could do yourself that would greatly influence your own health and risk for potential serious illness (heart attack, stroke, diabetes, etc) There is no time like the present to learn how to eat healthily, stop smoking (if you do), and exercise. If this is all a dramatic change from what you are used to doing, then start small and stay with it. It took 30 years for you to have the habits you do now. What are the chances that you are going to reverse your habits in a month? Not very high, I wouldn't think.

Discuss these matters with your physician or with his/her nurse. Perhaps you can get some referrals to other professionals that can help. I doubt your doctor wants anything but to reduce your risk of disease that untreated high blood pressure and untreated cholesterol result in.

Good luck.

Caduet is a combination of: Lipitor and Norvasc. If you have high cholesterol and high blood pressure- those two are very good medications all in one pill. That is, if you're not allergic to any of them... Side affects from the lipitor is liver problems. That is why your dr monitors blood test. you should be fine.
