What should I avoid while taking Lipitor?

• Alcohol and Lipitor can both be damaging to the liver. Alcohol should be used only in moderation. Discuss the use of alcohol with your doctor so that the potential for liver problems can be determined.
• Grapefruit and grapefruit juice may interact with Lipitor. The interaction could lead to potentially dangerous effects. Discuss the use of grapefruit and grapefruit juice with your doctor. Do not increase or decrease the amount of grapefruit products in your diet without first talking to your doctor.

What are the possible side effects of Lipitor?

• Rare cases of muscle problems and liver problems have been associated with the use of Lipitor and other similar medicines. These may be early symptoms of muscle or liver problems.

· an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);

· blurred vision.
• Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Lipitor and talk to your doctor if you experience

• Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

Hello -- The Drug "Lipitor" is a staten medication. My husband
took it for awhile and the the results were that he was unable to walk. So he stopped it. Now is is not taking anything. I knew someone who was taking Zedia and the very same thing happened. I just think if you watch what you eat you really don't need all these meds. It's a way for the doctors and the others out there to make money. All the staten meds are really no good and don't work well as they have very bad side effects.

Lipitor and other drugs in the same class (HMG CoA Reductase inhibitors, or "statins") all have similar side effects, though the rates vary from drug to drug, and of course, different people have different reactions (and most have no problems at all).
The most common side effect that people report is myalgia, or muscle pain, which can be quite severe and is often a reason to change drugs or even stop taking statins altogether. Less common but more severe side effects are elevation in liver enzymes (which indicates mild damage to the liver, which in this case is reversible but you should stop taking the drug) and rhabdomyolysis, which is more serious damage to the muscles and again indicates that you should stop taking the drug.
In general, if you feel well on it and you follow with your doctor to get the necessary blood tests (usually they will ask you to return 6 weeks after you start for some bloodwork to monitor how you're doing) you should be fine and should expect to see a substantial drop in your cholesterol levels.

If he's only been on it one week, it's far too early to know if it's going to work. Tiredness is a common side effect of these medications - but it could pass. These drugs take a good month to really get going! Your brother should phone his doctor if he feels really poorly, or if he can't cope with the fatigue. If he can tolerate it for another two or three weeks, all the better, then he can tell his doctor that he stuck it for the whole month. The doctor will either try changing the dosage, or switching him to another drug. But your brother mustn't change the dose on his own, only with advice. I was on Citalopram(Celexa) which is very similar to lexapro - I too was tired the entire time and yawning constantly. If the lexapro doesn't end up working, your brother might find Prozac less tiring.

I don't take Lipitor because of the side effects experienced by my father and uncle. Both of them began taking it and within three weeks they were so weak they needed help getting out of a chair. They stopped taking it and within a few days began to rebuild their strength.
What the hell good is low cholesterol if you suddenly become helpless?
I hope this answer helps you.

It can give some side effects. What I experienced appeared as a loss of strengh, a weakness. I talked to my doc about it and he told me to half the dosage and I feel comfortable, take it that way for a couple of weeks, then bring it up to the dosage that you were supposed to take.
