I am of Jamaican descent and my mother always beleived in traditional Jamaican herbal teas for minor ailments.
We would drink the teas like three to five times daily and of course eat normal home cooked foods to keep our strength up.
Garlic Tea- is great for colds/ fevers.
When we had colds, she would sometimes add Jamaican White Rum to our tea or rub it on our chests. It heats your body instantly and helps to kick out all that mucus.
Garlic Tea- boiled water, brown sugar or honey and washed and chopped garlic. You must boil the garlic in the water and add sweetener once it has boiled for a few minutes.
*I usually strain the tea before drinking it, i dont like the dregs in the bottom.
*Dont use too much sweetener cuz u'll defeat the purpose- its only to make it easier to drink.
*All teas are made like this, just substitute the herbs with the one you need.
Ginger tea is great for stomachaches, vomiting and nausea.
Thyme tea- good for a poor bowel movement. You will go like you've never gone before!
Cerassee Tea- good for iron deficiency. But don't drink daily because its very strong and overusing it can cause liver damage.
Chamomile Tea or Mint Tea is good for headaches. You just drink it and take a nap. You'll wake up refreshed.

A home made cough syrup usually made in India - don't know if it can be included as a 'dish' -
1 tsp crushed leaves of Holy Basil (called Tulsi)
1 tsp Juice of ginger
a few strands of saffron soaked in 1 tsp of milk
1 tsp honey
It is supposed to soothe your throat and clear up the congestion
For diarrhea we used to eat something called 'Khichidi" - basically rice and lentils biled with just salt and turmeric - no other spices. Some people also add chopped potatoes, carrots and peas to give it a little flavor (Rice, potatoes and carrots are all binding foods to stop diarrhea) It is still one of my fav - we make variations of it with spices etc on other days

I find any spicy cuisine to be good for the body. Spicy food increases the heart rate, which improves circulation and blood flow to infected parts of the body. Spicy food is also good for liver function and clears the bowels. I particularly recommend a good hot chili or curry to hasten the healing process.

when we caught a cold, we would boil some coke with ginger slices & lemon slices and drink the hot mixture for healing.
We also add garlic, ginger, green onions in our food to heal a flu. I avoid to eat deep fried or any oily food when I have a sore throat.
Chinese medicine is really complicated and I do not know how to explain to you of what herbs we use for healing. I have to ask my Chinese doctor.

My mother would made a hot totty for us when we were sick with sore throat, coughing, and sneezing. She would boild Lemons cut up into pieces, with Honey, and Lemon, and then add a couple of shot od 100 proof Granddad Whiskey, and let it cook for about 30 minutes, until most o fht Alcohol evaporated then we had to drink it as hot as we could bear it, and in the morning we would feel better.

Try some fried parsnips. Boil them for about 7 min's, when
cool slice lenghwise fry in butter untill golden brown.
Your patient will enjoy them I think

Most Asian cultures make a gruel/porridge of rice, which can be made with extra water or broth and is cooked longer than usual. My mom made it when whenever we had any stomach ailment.
