Most cardiac units have quite strict protocols for heart attack. The job of the physiotherapist is usually to start and progress this exercise programme to ensure the remaining healthy heart muscle performs well.
The programme usually involves a combination of level walking and stairs work, and some arm and leg work also.
The idea is to build up a level of fitness in the patient to be able to resume activities of daily life.

Rehabilitation after a heart attack may take several months or more.
The physiotherapist will teach relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, and exercises to gradually strengthen leg and trunk muscles. An appropriate graduated activity programme (usually walking) is introduced.
The patient may be invited to a cardiac rehabilitation programme as an outpatient which may include a group activity with fellow patients in a gym. Throughout the programme the physiotherapist aims to rebuild the person's confidence, to improve exercise tolerance and to teach them to recognise signs and symptoms of excess exercise
You can find out more at the British Heart Foundation who provide information booklets on all aspects of heart disease.

A physiotherapist will help do exercises and stretches to give the person a chance to gain strength in their muscles and limbs as well as watching their heart rate etc. IF there was a stroke or mini stroke involved as well they would help the person learn to use the affected limb. But if a heart attack is the only ailment, its probably the former. They will watch the heart rate as they walk or stretch and make sure there are no problems before they send you home or allow you to do normal activities.
