I ask this once and the answer had nothing to do with the question. Thats why I'm asking again. It was on the foodnetwork Easy Entertaining. Thanks Deb

Sometimes food shows verge on the precious... as an Italian, I can assure you that Calabrian chilies can be easily substituted with any other (preferably dried) red chilies.
Calabrian chilies are deep red, and not very hot. They do impart a lot of colour to a dish, and a delicate type of "heat".


If I were you, I would substitute Hungarian paprikas or Kashmiri dried chilies.

With due respect to the person who said "peperoncini" - that's just Italian for "chilies".

i did a quick search on google. this interesting article came up on calabrian chiles. seems like you could substitute peperoncini or any other hot chile. here's the link
