You will find a lot of the same foods, just done a little differently - of course there are many local specialities depending on the region you are going to. My absolute favourite French dish ( besides the crepe stands on the streets) is Raclette - where you have melted cheese and you put it on potatoes and prosciutto with cornichons (pickles) it is soooooo delicious, I bought a special pan from Cuisinart to make it here in North America.

you want to eat things you get on the street and in shops like in nyc. the kinds of food are wide and varied, many you will recognize. sit down restaurants can be outrageously expensive. in france chefs are like gods and fetch high prices for their creations. ask to see a menu if you go to a restaurant and check the prices before you go. have fun!

Excellent pastries and bread, fine desserts, great wines and chocolate... main dishes are varied and delicious, lots of tasty sauces, cheeses and cold cuts, snails and frog legs of course, venison and game meats... go to the places that locals go to, ask for the same things they are eating, be adventurous!

~~~I do believe that the French cook with alot of cream sauces,,,,but hey,,,,enjoy,,,,try a little of everything,,,,dont go to places that have your everyday fast familiar foods,,,your going all the way to france!!! ask the local people what is their favorite resturant,,,that should help get you to the "real" non touristy resturants,,,,,,,
