Could it be their own internal guilt surfacing or just old-fashioned ignorance and lack of education about food choices?

I referring specifically to people who automatically go on the defensive when they find out you are a vegetarian even though you haven't even talked about the subject.

Sorry Walter but legit nutritionists say that plant based diets meet all nutritional requirements. Most Doctors actually receive relatively little nutrition education. I think I am leaning toward lack of knowledge because that always seems to be evident with this subject.

Sorry Sittin, you don't have to be so defensive. I didn't mean to scare you.

why would they be unless they think they eat meat way to much and should stop because meat can have a lot of fat in it so they arn't really threatened but just worried about their physical appearance.

I think they are so defensive because they know they would never be able to do it. As all vegetarians know it took a lot of mind power to become a veggie. I will admit it took me two tries to give up meat, but now after three years I am never going back.

I am a meat eater for several reasons. #1 I like meat; #2 it's natural - just look at human guts and teeth; #3 it is bad in formative years to avoid meats for young people - just ask any Doctor.
I think you are harming your body by not eating meat.
And I do not feel guilty as it is the way God ordained things to be - I would feel guilty for disobeying God, not for ignoring your stupidity.

I, a devoted Carnivore, do not feel "threatened" by Vegetarians. I just think they are very funny in their strident campaign to make meat-eaters feel guilty. Sometimes they sound like they are too full of "beans" and come across as being self-righteous.
And don't plants, therefore their food source, have feelings, too?
Lighten up, guys.

Sorry to answer a Question with another but why are you thinking that meat eaters ( like myself ) are threatened by veggivors. I have no guilt about meat ; I hunt Fish and buy meat and have no guilt about it. Why are you intimidated by meat eaters? JUST CURIOUS>

It's not so much that they feel threatened as it is that there are so many annoying vegetarians who like to lecture meat eaters. They give vegetarians a bad name.

I'm a meat eater and I don't feel threatened by vegetarians. I just get annoyed by their constant preaching and complaining about my dietary choices.

I eat meat and vegetarians don't bother me at all. But, those who are bothered are just scared of what they do not understand. This is true with allot of things. Fear of what we don't understand.
It happens all to often. It's a shame really.
