I have a friend who won't eat any meat. She says it will make her regurgitate at the mere sight of it. She told me to go to a web site to see how cows are treated behind the scenes. I think she's obsessed. What do you think? (This is my daughter's question, she's 12 so be nice.) And she said to tell you, she loves meat!

Well, vegans are kind of wierd. (no offence) because animals eat animals. It's nature. I don't see what's wrong with eating meat.

Well, I love meat too, but I have been a vegetarian in the past, so I have experience with both sides. I never hated meat though, just tried to live without it - to hopefully be more healthy and spiritually minded. It did not work, as I became neither. Some feel it is healthier and that it is cruel and inhumane to hunt or kill and butcher our fellow creatures. They have a point. IF I had to kill and dress my own meat, I would have to do without. I AM an animal lover and really hate the thought of cruelty to ANY form of life. So I CAN understand how and why the girl you mentioned feels this way.

I would not call it an obsession, but a passionate life choice. As a vegetarian, I agree with your friend. I love animals, and therefore I hate eating them.
I hate how they are treated while they are alive, and I hate how they are slaughtered. I hate the hormones and antibiotics which are pumped into animals, which people who consume this meat also ingest (unless it is free range organic). I hate that these poor animals must often live in their own feces and in overcrowded and stressful, unhealthy situations.
After a while of being a vegetarian and choosing not to eat meat, the thought of consuming it does become disgusting. If I were to eat meat right now, I would literally become sick. My body would react very badly, since it is not used to it. But, most of all, putting the meat next to my lips would never happen because even the thought makes me sick.
I hope this answer wasn't rude. I just wanted to briefly explain my life choice (a life choice shared by many other veggies), and why it should be respected.

in response to aXXo --> fyi: humans are not biologically or evolutionary designed to eat meat. we do not have the claws, talons, or incisors to hunt. imagine taking down a cow with your bare hands. thanks to technology and intelligence we can murder any living thing... but does that mean we are entitled to eat it? the choice is yours, and my choice is to be veg :)

Zooo, even the most ardent vegan scientists agree that human's are designed to eat meat, that is not in question. That we do not have claws, talons, or incisors to hunt proves nothing. When early hominids ate meat they scavenged it, as vultures do, using their fingers to get the sinews and meat other animals couldn't. Humans have evolved with tools, and humans have always used tools to catch prey, eliminating any need for claws or talons.
Simple research into human biology reveals how we are meant to eat meat. For one thing, our body produces hydrochloric acid and meat splitting enzymes that herbivores don't produce and are solely used for the digestion of meat. There are adaptations to our teeth (not incisors, rather the size of the jaw), stomach and intestines which have made a human being very adept at meat digestion. If we aren't designed to eat meat explain why this is so.
Then, we cannot naturally get all the nutrients we need without animal products. Vitamin B12 cannot be got, even now, without animal products or supplements, and a lack of it can cause anaemia and impending death. In bygone times there would have been even more unavailable nutrients due to when various plants were out of their short seasons, whereas now we can eat them even out of season, and that a much smaller range of plants would be available, whereas we can now fly them in from all over the globe. Until very recently it would have been impossible for a vegan human to live naturally without dying very quickly.

Each of us are different.. that is a freedom to cherish. I hope both of you treasure your differences & are able to still be friends.
I do not beleive in eatting flesh because I think it is unhealthy. I like your friend find how some living creatures are being treated so they can provide us food a mortal sin. God has given them into our care. If she has been educated on their horrible treament she is more than likely in shock & is reeling from the knowledge.
Even people who decide not to become "Veggies" sometimes switch to organic meats, poultry, eggs, & milk because the treatment of the animals is more human.
Blessed be ~

It's a matter of different opinions and beliefs. If this is how her friend feels, as long as she doesn't rant and go on and really bother your daughter about it, just let her believe what she wants. I'm a vegan, most of my friends absolutly love meat, and we just respect each other's opinions on the matter. Just get them to respect each other, it's a matter of choice what you do or do not want to eat.

Not having meat is an act of compassion for animals. What we we be like if we are in these poor creatures shoes. Think about it. Scientifically speaking, plants and vegatables have not nerve or pain recepters, therefore, can be consumed.

You would probably stop eating meat if you saw the treatment of the cows before/during being killed. It's inhumane. I eat meat, but very little. If I think about it too hard, it makes me sick too. I have thought seriously of giving it up all together.

Well, many people just hate meat because they don't believe in killing an animal. But the Bible tells us that God put animals on Earth and we are their caretakers, and animals are here so that we can use them like for food and clothing like leather and other things, because animals don't have a soul.

I raise my own beef and hogs, go with it to the slaughter, and watch it be killed, I know exactly how my meat is treated when it is killed. The slaughter houses that kill commercial animals are under some very strict rules, and are not allowed to mistreat the animals. My ex used to work in quite a few slaughter houses, and has never seen any mistreatment either.. Not all of them are bad places...
