Many people will say no, but in fact a person CAN get rid of HPV. HPV is a virus and there are no cures for viruses, but many people are actually able to get rid of the virus on their own. Their bodies can basically fight it off. Some people though will have it the rest of their life and are unable to get rid of it.

Human papillomavirus. A virus that causes abnormal tissue growth (warts) and is often associated with some types of cancer. HPV is not HIV. If you click the link you can get lots of information. We have never been able to cure a virus yet at this point in medicine, never once. There is no "cure" for HPV infection, although in most women the infection goes away on its own. The treatments provided are directed to the changes in the skin or mucous membrane caused by HPV infection, such as warts and pre-cancerous changes in the cervix. However, the research and news you speak of is the HPV vaccine. You must get the shot (three shots) before you get HPV and it will prevent you from getting it. I have had the vaccine and they are thinking about making it mandatory in schools for children as young as 10 to get the shot. I got it as part of one of the research studdies for free but it has been shown to work. The link is from the cdc and very reputable.

No, HPV is a virus and once you catch a virus you can´t get rid of it! All you can do is get treatmente so that the warts that are caused by HPV don´t spread.

As far as I know ther is still no cure, but as you say research is ongoing. A product has to go through very strict testing before it can become licenced for general use, often over a period of years.
