Is the gelatin used in skittles real gelatin, or is it artificial gelatin?
I just want to know if skittles have real animal gelatin or if they have an artificial substitue for gelatin. Please share if you know. I'd also like to know about starbursts.

Skittles are a non-kosher food. The American version is not vegetarian as it contains gelatin. The European version is gelatin-free.

Are you going to stop eating skittles?

Artificial Gelatin

If it lists gelatin, then it comes from animals, Skittles and Starburst included (which bummed me out because there was a sweepstakes with codes in the product and I just couldn't buy it...). Kosher gelatin generally comes from fish. The main substitute is carageenan which is a seaweed. It's not used in foods made by the giant food corporations, just the little health food guys. Hain Pure Foods makes boxed of vegan "jello" in strawberry, orange and raspberry flavors, but that doesn't help your candy issue. Sorry! (You CAN eat Sour Patch Kids)

Skittles and Starburst are both made with pork gelatin. That is ral gelatin. Some names for substitute gelatin are carrageenan, pectin, and agar agar. I hope that this helps you!! Good Luck!

If it says "gelatin" it's really gelatin. If some other sort of thickener (like pectin, for example) is used, that is what would be listed in the ingredients.

if it just says gelatin, i would assume its animal based. i cant find the ingredients on-line tho, but i would just say stay away from it if you dont want to eat animal by products. are you vegan? if so, no milk or eggs either!
