Well, I've had diabetes for 12, near 13 years now. I have to say, I do enjoy a good beer now and again.
It's true that it has sugars in it that will initially raise your blood sugar. But this isn't as much as a problem as people make out. As long as you drink in moderation and never drink on an empty stomach.
Also a point to remember is that alcohol will actually lower your blood sugar hours after consumption. (such as the following morning) So make sure that you stop by and grab something to eat on the way home, or make a sandwich or some toast before going to bed. Also drink some water, it will reduce the risk of a hangover.
The problem being that so many people don't understand diabetes. Even professionals, especially in other countries such as America. Here in the UK, we are more advanced in diabetes research. There are certain acceptions and things you can do to make sure you don't miss out on the little treats in life, such as chocolate and alcohol. It's all about moderation and making sure you're still getting in enough exercise, eating a healthy balanced diet, and keeping an eye on those blood sugars!
Enjoy your beer :)

Beer can be virtually a hallucinogenic, as the sugar surge will cause a loss of reality. A friend, a diabetic (a dentist) had a small farm in addition to his own residence. He worked on the farm mowing hay, it was hot and he decided to drink one of the beers that he kept there for guests. On the way home, the sugar surge hit him and as he was driving, he blanked out....just a lost of control...he struck another car and killed the three people inside. He was indicted and eventually sentenced to prison...he was 64 years old at the time. It was devastating to the family and destroyed his own family....DON'T EVEN THINK OF IT.

I don't know what "shock top" is. Have never heard of it. I do know what bush lite is. Yeah! my glucose hits the moon drinking lite beer! I usually either have Coors or Bud, and never the lite!! Have no idea what chromium picolinate or cinnamon have to do with drinking beer or ale!! They don't help at all there, even tho I do take them. Just be sure to have knowledgeable friends with you if you drink too much or don't test enough while drinking!! I like a glass or 4 of wine or beer occasionally too. And be sure to keep the buzz to a minimum by snacking while drinking! you can drink more than one or two that way!

If you follow the carb counting diet then you have to look at the number of carbs in beer. Which used to be were high across the board, but now thanks to Atkins you can find low carb beer. But basically, you count beer in the carbs that you count for the day. Since carbs turn into sugar.
