The Jewish are not the only ones to eat raw fish. Here in Holland every year tons of raw herring get eaten. Can't see the pleasure in it myself, prefer fish cooked in the pan and sprinkled with a little lemon juice. Simple but so nice.

In 1 Shulimanians 13, verses 23-45, the story is told of the fire going out as Shuliman and his people are waiting for the water to subside (so they can cross to Eritrea). The tide goes out and leaves a bounty of fish upon the banks, but in their eagerness to scoop up as many of the fish as they can, the people splash water on the fire and it goes out. Preegle tries many times to rekindle the flame, but cannot. Shuliman prays for an answer, and eventually is inspired to instruct his people to wrap small pieces of the fish in seaweed and eat them raw.

"And the taste was found pleasant to them, and they were nourished. On the third day, the waters receeded further, and Preegle led the people through the shallow waters unto Eritrea..."

To commemorate this historic event...
