Some STDs can actually be spread from the mother to the child during birth. This is usually pretty rare, but it can happen.

Herpes, HIV, gonorrhea, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HPV can all be spread from the mother to the child during birth. Of course some are spread more easily than others though.

There is that possibility. That is the reason the pregnant female has prenatal care. She and her doctor can discuss the best delivery method and care during and after pregnancy. If the mother is HIV+ or has AIDS she should not breast feed as the virus is spread by breast milk.

A friend of mine has herpes and she had to have a c section, because of it, talk to your DR.
