my 17 year old son came home from school today & told me about his friends "mother" who's boss went out to lunch with employees from my son's friends mother's work (did that make sense?) In a nut shell, the food took forever to come to the table (longer than 25 minutes) & after eating just a bit of it,they all had it boxed up to take back to the office(then home I imagine)with them.SUPPOSEDLY the next day,all of them woke up with blisters around their lips.2 of the afflicted went to the doctor to be told that it was herpes. The remaining afflicted soon followed. They too were told the same thing. Herpes. Now, my son also claims that there was "7 different semen" in the food (they had it tested, again SUPPOSEDLY).
K, I'm 44 & I like to think I'm fairly hip with things, but with his friends mother claiming it happened, maybe I really don't know much about anything.I am under the impression that contracting herpes this way is NEAR impossible. And if it is, would it show up so quickly?

I ran out of room up there ... this just can't be possible can it? Why would someone tell their child a thing like this? Geez. Anyway, tell me it's not so

Sounds like an urban legend to me. Let's ask snopes (the urban legend authority.) Well, snopes doesn't have this exact story, but what they do have is close enough to make me think this one is simply an off-shoot. Also, I am pretty sure that herpes is only spread through skin-skin contact. Not semen, for one thing. But check out the link for more info.

Never believe rumors - unless you have the hard cold facts. Secondly, the only way a person can become infected with HSV-1 or HSV-2 is from exchange of fluids. Possibly someone who works at the Olive Garden was having an outbreak, touched an open sore on their mouth- then didn't wash their hands and transferred the virus by handling the food that was eaten. Go get checked and have blood tests confirmation before spreading the Olive Garden Rumor.

Okay who ever started this rumor is TOTALLY lying or just trying to start a rumor (key word rumor).

There is NO way anyone would ever get herpes from eating food. NO WAY!

Cold sores (herpes simplex virus 1) is usually spread by kissing someone with cold sores. You can get it other ways like sharing chap stick, lip stick or even a cigarette with someone who has cold sores. But, there is no way you can get it from cooked food, that no ones lips have been on.

Whoever is spreading this around is totally full of it. Sorry I get so angry about this, but it's people like this who get it into peoples heads that you can get herpes from anything. A swimming pool, a jacuzzi, a spa, a toilet, shower, sink, the hair salon, you name it.

This is SO not true and I wouldn't believe it for a minute!

LOL, Herpes is to sexually transmitted.

Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by the herpes simplex viruses type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2). Most genital herpes is caused by HSV-2. Most individuals have no or only minimal signs or symptoms from HSV-1 or HSV-2 infection. When signs do occur, they typically appear as one or more blisters on or around the genitals or rectum. The blisters break, leaving tender ulcers (sores) that may take two to four weeks to heal the first time they occur. Typically, another outbreak can appear weeks or months after the first, but it almost always is less severe and shorter than the first outbreak. Although the infection can stay in the body indefinitely, the number of outbreaks tends to decrease over a period of years.

No, I hadn't heard that rumor but I'm sure Olive Garden's management would be interested in determining who started it.
