AGAIN, WHAT IS MRSA???

Kinda. It stands for Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus. It's a staph infection resistant to certain drugs. Most patients with MRSA are placed on contact precautions. Basically you shouldn't touch a person with MRSA without gloves on and if your clothes are likely to have a lot of contact with the person then you should wear an isolation gown. Visitors are strongly encouraged to also wash their hands both before and after visiting the patient. These people that are on contact precautions have MRSA in a wound or in their urine usually. However, if it in their sputum, then visitors need to wear a mask while in the room with the patient. The patient could cough, you (the visitor) breath it in, and you get MRSA. The mask definitely needs to be worn within 3 feet of the patient--especially if the patient is coughing a lot.

Yes it is contagious. Usually one gets it when their health has become compromised. Especially if you become compromised in a hospital setting were MRSA is pretty common.
