Im wondering if I might be hypoglycemic or in the early stages of becoming diabetic...

My dad is diabetic and says that I should watch out for low blood sugar episodes where my hands shake, or i feel lightheaded or get a headache.....because those are early signs of diabetes.

When I dont eat a breakfast with a lot of protein I seem to crash really hard get shaky hands, headaches, and light headed.

But my bfs mom (who is a nurse) asked me if I was hypoglycemic when she saw this.... so Im wondering if thats possible?

Anyone who is hypoglycemic or diabetic have any thoughts?

I am hypoglycaemic and yes it is a form of diabetes. The symptoms you describe is what I suffer.

Buy yourself a glucose meter and test your blood twice a day. Also make sure you eat little and often. Don't go any longer than 4 hours between eating. Eat sensibly too, chocolate is only a quick fix to bring your sugar levels up. Your blood sugar will dip within 20 mins after a chocolate bar. Carry glucose in your purse for when you get a low sugar attack and YES see a doctor get a test done.

As someone else already pointed out, hypoglycemia is not a type of diabetes. However, many people are hypoglycemic BEFORE becoming diabetic. Reactive Hypoglycemia is the most common form. What happens is your body releases too much insulin in response to certain foods. What makes it a possible precursor to diabetes is the constant assault to your system with the high insulin levels created by what you eat can make your cells become less receptive to insulin...called insulin resistance. Over time as insulin resistance builds it gets to a point where your pancreas can no longer produce enough insulin to over come the resistance. At that point you're diabetic. You should go see your doctor and let em know your symptoms. Tests should be run, including a four hour glucose tolerance test and glucose should be taken every 30 minutes instead of the two hour test that measures glucose at one and two hours that is typically used to diagnose diabetes. If you have hypoglycemia it's a warning sign that you need to make changes to your lifestyle. With a family history of diabetes the odds are not in your favor.

It is quite possible that you are, or maybe borderline. Shaking is not normal if you skip a breakfast. Make an appointment with the doctor, to check your fasting blood sugar. You could also go down to the local pharmacy, some of them can test you there, or at least I've seen signs posted for them.
Normal range is between 70-120 broadly. If your blood sugar drops below normal you can have signs and it can be dangerous depending on how low it goes. Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed as a child, but more commonly Type 2 diabetes can develop later in life especially when your body become resistant to the insulin that you normally produce. Changing your diet, and exercise can help control it if you are borderline, but if not you must be on medication and constantly monitor your levels.
Bottom line, go get checked.

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.

Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

Ok, first off, although hypoglycemia is common in diabetics, it is actually NOT a sign of diabetes, the disease of diabetes mellitus is high sugar, not low. Hypoglycemia happens in diabetics because of the treatments, which are designed to lower glucose, not because of the disease itself.
That having been said, the symptoms you describe are typical of hypoglycemia (I had a professor in medical school who used to say, "Hypoglycemia is like love; it starts with a tremor, palpitations, sweaty palms, then faintness, coma, and death" (I don't know what this says about his views of love, but it's proven a good mneumonic to me ^_^).
Of course, there are many other things that can cause these symptoms as well, and it's important to find out exactly what the cause is so appropriate treatment can be given. The only way to really know about blood sugar is to measure it during these episodes and see what it is, and you doctor can help you with getting the equipment to do that.

The only way you're going to know for sure (and not end up in a diabetic or hypoglycemic coma) is to have your glucose levels tested. It's an easy and painless test and can be done by any doctor. If you're having the episodes you're describing don't mess around with opinions. Go see your healthcare provider.

Good luck...

I was hypoglycemic for many years before I became type 1 diabetic. This is not to say you will became diabetic, I've known many hypoglycemics that never became diabetic. Learn how to handle your problem, and regularly see your Dr. if anything changes.

First of all you can't be diabetic if your blood sugar is too low. Diabetes is when your blood sugar is high and your pancreas either don't produce insulin or your cells can't use insulin.
