No. HPV is usually not forever. HPV is a virus and there are NO cures for viruses. But, most people are actually able to get rid of the HPV on their own. Some will have it the rest of their lives though.

There is a new vaccine called Gardasil. It protects against 4 different kinds of HPV (there are over 100). Two kinds cause about 70% of cervical cancer cases and the other two kinds cause about 90% of genital warts cases. Your doctor can tell you what kind of HPV you have by testing you.

Many doctors and even Merck and Co. (the company that makes the new vaccine) recommend ALL women get the vaccine, whether they have HPV or not. Most people don't have all four of the kinds the vaccine protects against, therefore protecting them from any kind they don't have. So, if you only have one kind that the vaccine protects against, and you get the vaccine, it should protect you against any of the three you don't already have.

Yes it is forever, most women don't even realize they have it until they have an outbreak or their pap comes back bad. Pap's don't always pick up the HPV so you could have had it all along. It is a virus and the only time you have to use medication is if you have an outbreak. There is no cure for it. Women are more at risk for catching HPV, It's rare that men catch it but there are the few who do. Make sure your husband gets a good check up from his doc. That way you can protect each other. You need to make sure you keep your check ups because certain forms of HPV can cause cancer. There are many different forms of HPV so talk with your doc. and he/she will be better at explaining it to you.

congrats on getting married!

women diagnosed w/HPV before the age of 30 actually have a very good chance of getting rid of it.It is a type of std and it is from having multiple partners. something you can do to increase your chances of getting rid of it is to stay w/only one sexual partner and both of you be faithful. make sure your husband doesnt already have it.(men are less likely to) now that you Know you have it make sure you are getting regular paps and stay on top of it.HPV leads to cervical cancer and or genital warts.

if it didnt show up in the first, most likely yes. HPV is a sexually transmitted disease that causes genital warts, and depending on the immune system it will normally go away after a year or two.

Or if it doesnt go away it causes cervical cancer, anal cancer, and in men penis cancer, but penis cancer is extremely rare..

**About the vaccine---it is for young women who have not become sexually active. Once you already have HPV, there is no cure at this time.
