OF COURSE! I am a chef, and it is for sanitation and safety reasons that you put all of your hair in the hairnet. The only time I have let anyone NOT wear a hairnet is if they are either bald, or if their hair is so shirt it doesn't need a hairnet. But if any comes out more than 1 1/2 inches out of your hat (presuming you wear one) then YES ALWAYS PUT ALL YOUR HAIR IN THE HAIRNET, NOT JUST THE PONYTAIL!

I don't know what the laws are where you live or even where I live for that matter. But, once I was having lunch with friends at a casual restaurant and I noticed all the young waitresses had long blond hair and none of them wore a hairnet or even had their hair in a ponytail. At the same time I heard my friend say, "Yuck!!!" as she pulled a long blond hair out of her salad. We left and never went back there. There should be a law requiring either a hairnet or hair pinned tightly back.

I work at a restaurant, and the only people who have to wear hairnets are the cooks with long hair. But if they don't want to wear a hairnet, they can go with either a hat or a bandana...But different places will obviously have different rules.

I work in a restaurant and the chefs have to keep it under a hat. I have to keep my long hair tied back off my face, but not in a hairnet...

Yes, but the ones usually wearing hair nets are the ones handling the foods in the kitchen, like chefs, assistants of the chef, stewards, etc.

I majored in Culinary too just like Kristina. And when I used to work at Makati Shang-Rila, Philippines... everyone in the kitchen had to use it.

The purpose of hairnets are for sanitary.
Wouldn't you appreciate to eat your food knowing that the ones who prepared it had clean hands, well-fixed hair not hanging out touching your food or like sweat scrolling down their hair and dripping down your food? I think so! LOL =)
