I wouldn't try it unless you're really, REALLY confident in what you have. Mushrooms are much more difficult to identify than other plants, and can really make you sick or even be poisonous if you don't get it 100% right.

You're better off mowing them over and buying some really nice mushrooms from your local grocery store or market.

If you're up for a challenge to find out what you have, I'd really suggest buying a Powell's guide book and doing some hunting. A friend of mine has one and we were able to find puffballs growing at an old, abandoned farm. Yummy!

Depending on where you live there are likely plenty of edible mushrooms to be harvested in your yard. The problem is there are also some that could be fatal. Its not always easy to tell the good ones apart from the poisonous ones. Get a field guide for mushrooms to help you out. A lot of communities offer guided walks/hikes where an expert helps folks to identify different type of edible plants and mushrooms. Don't eat a mushroom unless you're certain its safe.

I just have to point out that someone above said "sure if you want to be dead for the rest of your life." If your dead, doesn't your life end? If not then when does it end? Ever? The next day? When damn you! When!
