I'm not a picky eater, and I am appalled by those who are, especially in social situations. My mother was an adventurous cook who served a variety of ethnic cuisines. I was also taught that it was rude and most ungracious to turn your nose up at something you were served as a guest. Our family motto was: "Try it you might like it."

I agree with you and the first person, we were not allowed to be picky, we ate what we were given or went hungry, simple as that. When we went to other people's house for dinner we had to eat what we got, we knew we would get into trouble for refusing. I am very grateful for this as now I will try things and I can go for dinner anywhere without any fuss. Picky eaters bug me.

Picky eaters drive me nuts. My mom never made me eat anything I didn't like. But I must be a weirdo, cause when my roommy and her two kids were here her they wouldn't eat anything that had flavor. If it had spices, vegetables or anything derived from a veggie they wouldn't even taste it and the kids would scrape their plates outside in the weeds when I wasn't looking. I am an extemely good cook according to everybody else and this behavior absolutely infuriated me.

My mom made my sister and I TRY everything she ever made. If we didn't like it, we didn't have to eat it, but we had to try. We couldn't say we didn't like it due to the look or the smell or anything else. To this day, my sister and I try just about everything. I did have the to draw the line when my BF's dad offered me pigs feet though. I have a stepdaughter who is the most picky eater ever. She won't try ANYTHING. We try and try but to no avail. She's a lucky kid cuz if she were growing up in my house, she would have starved

The variety put in on my plate by my mom when I was a kid. The only choice we had was what was put in front of us. I still don't like lima beans though. As an aside, I have no tolerance for adults who are picky eaters.

I don't concider it a non-picky palette but, rather an experienced palette. It finds the true "flavor" in the food you are eating rather than stopping you at the smell or texture. And allows you to savor the flavor.

My mother (bless her soul) only made the same dishes over and over. After they both passed away, I had to learn how to cook on my own. I found out that other foods could be so good! It made me want to try new things all the time. The only thing I can't eat is fennel/anise/licorice. Everything else is at least worth a couple bites, according to my mother! :)

As a child we ate what we were served or did without..it wasn't a either or menu, my Mother dished up what she had cooked and if you didn't like it then you went hungry till the next meal.I am not and never have been picky it makes life much easier if you will at least try everything...

My Mother gets that honor, she reared 5 children single-handed.She was a very flavorful cook.We were from the south, so what they call comfort foods were on our menu. The only food that I tried and really didn't care to try again was fried bananas. Some thing about the hot banana wouldn't pass too easy. She left that legacy to me, which I have tried to pass on..

It was all mom!!! And I love her for it. We grew up eating alot of different foods including different Chinese foods( alot of strange ones in fact) coming from Chinese heritage. I did say I would never eat one thing and that was sushi. But as a young adult I bit the bullet and tried aqnd now its my favorite thing in the world!! I cant stand people who say they dont like something especially if they have never tried it. But I do have one thing I wont eat and that is snails (escargot). SICK!!!!!!!!! I tried them and thought I was going to vomit right there in the restaurant. So for all you picky eaters, shut up and eat!!!!!!!!! : )
