Are you using a glucometer (home testing machine) to test your blood sugar? 33 is extremely low. Are you diabetic? You should be having symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) like shakes, sweating, hunger, confusion, etc. Eat carbs or drink some sweetened drink or even better, juice. Check it again in about 15 minutes. If it's not coming up, eat or drink some more. Below 70 is to low for me. I've been an insulin dependant diabetic for over 25 years. Normal blood sugar is 80 mgdl to 120 mgdl or 70 mgdl to 110 mgdl, depending on who you ask.
I disagree with whoever said you'd be in a coma if it were 33. I've had a 27 reading and granted, I was very clumsy but very conscious.

If you are experiencing the feelings of low blood sugar like headache, dizziness or shaking feeling AND have eaten within last two hours and BS is 85 that can be an indication of low blood sugar that can be controlled by WHAT and WHEN you eat I have suffered from low BS since my teens and have to eat several small meals a day of the right kind of food to keep my BS above 70

yes. It should be between 80-120. 70-140 is still safe but 33 is way too low. You could pass out and die. I have been under 40 about 5 times. It is not a good feeling at all.

My blood sugar has gone down that low and I was awake conscious and talking, so don't listen to everything everyone has to say, but yes that is extremely low, drink some orange juice and eat a peanut butter sandwich if it goes that low again and be careful with your insulin, if it keeps going that low then of course call 911 or contact your endocrinologist immediately. 70-110 is the range for type 1

Hi there hot candy, I assume that you are from the US or Canada and your glucose machine is measuring in ml/dl. If so, take the advice from Lyn 1 on how to bring your sugar levels up. If you are experiencing a lot low blood sugars (hypoglycaemia) you should seek the advice of the person who is in charge of your diabetes and ask them to assess your medication requirements. Also you should be looking as to why your sugar levels are dropping. Are you eating enough food, are you giving to much medication for the food you are eating, did you do any exercise hours before you experienced your low blood sugar.
Throughout most of Europe they measure in mmol/l rather than dl/ml, so 33mmol/l would be classed as a very high blood sugar (hyperglycaemia) whereas less than 4mmol/l would be classed as hypoglycaemia. Hence why Wayne Y has said that his dads should be less than 10.
Anyway, as I said listen to Lyn 1 and keep yourself safe

Yes, your glucose is low. As a general rule, you should eat 15 grams of carbs and check again in 15 minutes. Continue to do this until the level is at least 80 mg/dl. 15 grams of carbs are a standard amount for each step as about 1 carb choice. Just make sure that the carbs you eat are going to be metabolized quickly.
