Wild rice, which is not really rice at all, is the seed of a true grass. Regular rice is considered a "cereal grass" or grain, related to oats, wheat, etc - see http://www.flavorandfortune.com/dataaccess/article.php?ID=195

Yes, rice is a grass. So is corn

Rice, barley, oats, buckwheat, wheat are ALL grasses, even if you want to call them grains too.
