They are afraid they are going to die, be unhealthy. Constantly it is on tv, news, etc., that people get heart disease from too much animal fat. Its actually nonscense, but who can hardly fight the government and their political ads? Yes, it does go that far. People get health issues later in life, and NOT because they ate too much beef. It's because they didnt take care of themselves when younger, or it runs in their genes.
Some do it because they care for animals, yes. I love animals too, but my personal statement is, "If it's already dead, you might as well eat it, else it died for nothing". In other words, I will NOT hunt, I will NOT go fishing, but in the market, I will buy meat. I have seen too many packaged meat not be sold, fish also, and they were thrown away. I hope Ive given you some help. Take Care

I am a vegan, meaning that I do not eat, consume or use any product that comes from animals. I made this choice as I am completely disgusted with the way that animals are made to suffer, many for days on end or longer to become our dinner. It isn't right that these animals are not at least killed in a more humane way.
I also do not eat meat in an effort to end hunger. If half of the world became vegan, there would be so much land that is currently used to feed the overpopulated and sick stock from meat farms, that could be used for vegetable farming. That alone would give the entire world enough food to eat and NOT one person, NOT ONE CHILD would go hungry.
I hope that helps you to understand why some people make this choice. I wish more would.

For some it is because they do not want to be mean to animals
When we were growing up we were vegetarians, my younger sister had a digestive problem and my mom was not going to make different meals that she could not have so we were vegetarians.
When I became an adult I was not getting enough protein so I began eating meat but the way that most meat is processed it leaves a lot to be desired. Unless you are buying organic the meat you are buying is injected with solution to make it look plumper which actually destroys the taste and the nutrians.

The reason that many people do not eat meat is because the animals, (beef or fowl) are injected with hormones. They then gain weight rapidly and are ready for the market sooner. There are hormones placed in milk, which people ignore, but are not so quick to ignore the fact of having hormones placed in meat. Also, they say that humans were not originally meant to be carnivores, and last but not least, is the fact that meat is difficult for the body to digest.

The Easy answer is that it can be for a variety of reasons, some people choose not to eat meat on the basis of feelings for the animals. another reason would be that some believe it to be unhealthy (High fat and calories) and lastly for religious reasons (Muslims have to eat meat slaughtered a certain way which is hard to find).

I think there are a few reasons, not necessarily in this order:
1. They think it is healthier.
2. They want to be thinner/ or not get fat.
3 They are cheap and don't want to spend the money on meat, which also is more difficult to cook,
4. They don't like the taste of meat, they are allergic to meat.
5. They think all the animals of the world will live happy and healthy lives and die of old age before they are made into shoes, handbags, seat covers, coats, glue, etc.,
6. They are just lazy.
Is that fair????

First of all vegetarians do not live on vegetables alone. We eat soy fake meat products. I loved meat but have found that eating soy taco meat and not having the fat run down my arm while eating that taco is much more appealing. I quit for these reasons:

My second reason:

It has been estimated that the last 25% of the meat you eat is rotten by the time it gets ingested into your system from your stomach.
Because of the acids that are needed to break down the meat, you will not be ingesting the same meat you swallowed at the beginning of your meal by the time the final portion is fully digested.
If that isn't reason enough not to eat meat, then go 'head, and eat meat.
It's like smoking cigarettes/cigars, if you haven't fully realized the dangers from smoking, then go 'head and smoke!

Considering that the average adult person has up to seven lbs of undigested Red meat in their intestinal tract. To me I feel this is unhealthy. Vegetable digest better and I don't need the extra weight.
