I am currently the student congress president of my college. As part of our "duties" we are in charge of homecoming. We have a court but they just dress in "formals" not anything to do with the theme. Basically I have to decorate a huge lobby in our gymnasium with some sort of theme. Any ideas would be great. Thanks!

How about "Picture Perfect Memories" as the theme. We used it for my daughter's drill team banquet one year. You can hang picture frames in all sizes. Paint them in gold, silver, white, and your school colors.Hang a grouping where pics will be made. Then you can have poster size blow ups of past homecomings and this year put up everywhere and a video of the year's top events and people going during the dance.Have a bulletin board type set up w/pics for the past students that come back for homecoming to look at.Maybe 5 yrs to each board or table. You could have a large frames for the couples tochoose from and to hold in front of them and have their pics made.Give the honorees nice frames with the year and date on it Have the school photograher take special pics of them for their frames and mail them to them as soon as you can. We also did one prom with dead tree branches and small trees (tallest 8ft or so)all placed in buckets with a little cement to hold them up. Spray paint them white and place white Christmas lights on them. Make a pathway through them for the honorees to be come through when announced. You could also paint some the school colors to bring some color into some areas. You will need lots of trees to make it look nice.Cover the buckets with white material like snow or use black to hide them.Your theme could be "One Starry Night" or" Memories of a Starry Night". Place the white lights everywhere but not too many where you will dance or it will be too bright. You can use nice white wrought iron outdoor furniture for pics or the honorees and place them where the trees are.It will be romantic and nice.Have a black background for the pics with white trees (no lights because of the flash)on the sides where the students can sit or stand for pics. Also have a large white tree with a white swing with flowers in the chains for the girls to sit on and guys to stand beside or behind the girl. That way they can have a romantic choice for their pics. The trees and lights would be all the decor you would need for this one. For all of the homecoming materials you will have you can cover a table with black and edge it with the white lights.Place it by the podium or the front door so people can get to it if you have programs, pamplets, info, pics, etc.Do the same for any table for foods,sign-in,etc.Hope this helps!Have a night to remember!

Pirates are big right now and a theme of sailboats and treasure would be fun. My homecoming theme was a night under the stars with twinkling lights and big sparkly stars everywhere. If you wanted to do something different you could do a jungle theme or under the ocean. Sounds like it will be fun. Also, go and look at different sites online that have party supplies, if you type in school dance and party supplies together, you can find a bunch of ideas and supplies all at the same place. Good luck :)

I did a moroccan theme for my formal (what we call homecoming in Australia) We had huge oil lamps hanging from the ceilings, the tables were lit with orange red and blue mini oil lanterns, we had ornate wine glasses and china on the tables. Incense was burned all around the rooms, we sectioned off parts of the hall with big ornate curtains and had private rooms filled with coulourful cusions for friends to sit and talk in. Before and after the band (a rock band, not quite with the theme but you can't belly dance all night) we had cafe del mar music playing and the wait staff wore silks and beads. We even got someone with a huge snake to come in and have photo's with all the students. We served exotic foods but mixed it with some basic dishes like chicken tikka masala and butter chicken so everyone could find something on the menu they liked. It was a really great theme and made for great photos. I must admit we had a pretty big budget but if you put in some research you can really get some bargains.

Good luck!

An easy theme would be "The Stars Come Out At Night". Then just run with the star theme - sparkly table covers, stars hanging down from the ceiling. Giant star backdrop for photo opportunity. Use white twinkling lights everywhere. Put tall tree branches in pots, spray paint white, sprinkle with glitter, and then decorate with white twinkling lights and little silver stars. Use silver star garland spiraled around candles on the tables.

I wish I could draw you a picture! LOL
What if your theme was designed for Freedom, and success? You could decorate the lobby with pictures, or paintings of trains on the tracks, air balloons lifting into the sky, Eagles in flight, red, white, and blue, flags, cheering crowds. You can make large posters of anything refering to progress, success, and Freedom. Doves in a light blue white clouded sky with silver streamers are good too. Good luck to you.
