As maize (also known as corn) is native to North America, it is not surprising that the various kinds of cornbreads are more prevalent in the New World. However, polenta is a kind of cornbread that is common in Italy. Cornbread was first discovered during the European exploration of North America. Native Americans were using ground corn for cooking long before the European explorers arrived in the New World. Europeans had to use the local resources for food, fashioned cornmeal into cornbread. Cornbread was popular during the American Civil War because it was very cheap and could be made in many different forms. It could be fashioned into high-rising, fluffy loaves or simply fried for a fast meal.

Never heard of it. Do you mean corn bread? If so, it is made from corn meal which is the principal dry ingredient. Then a proportionate amount of liquids is added, plus an egg or two, and then it is baked in the oven. It has a slightly grainy texture when baked, and is good with butter and/or honey. It's usually served with beans, bean soup or ham and beans. Sorry -- I never heard of cord bread. Maybe someone else can answer your question.

it is dough that is rolled into rope like pieces about 1 inch thick that braided or laid togther to make bread that looks like rope
