Really good. True there are some dishes that some people would think is exotic or weird but just give it a try, it's not going to kill you. If billions of people in the world can eat it, so can you. Btw, I'm Chinese and many other Chinese people I know definitely do not even consider Panda Express Chinese food, it's WAY too Americanized.

It's not like the stuff you buy in cans or frozen. I had a Chinese friend - her family immigrated from china years ago, and her family always had me over for dinner and stuff- and the Chinese food was always much different than anything you could possibly buy. I don't know if it was just her cooking, but that stuff was SO GOOD. I wish I could taste some of this stuff again, I have no idea where to get it because I don't know what it was called, or even what was in it half the time! LOL

I dunno how authentic Chinese food in the Chinatowns of Toronto, San Francisco and LA truly is, but it's so good. It's much lighter than bastardized Chinese like Panda Express, Pick Up Stix etc. I'll have to admit, I stick to ordering the chicken dishes that aren't covered in a crispy coating (cuz you just don't know what it might be), and I never order beef dishes, just a lot of shrimp, prawns, crabs and lobster.

But yeah, the food over in mainland China sounds a little iffy...sorry if I offend. But seeing those poor cats and doggies caged up like that waiting to be tossed in a wok, pisses me off so much, it makes me wanna %$#@! break something.

Never been to China but I have eaten in Chinatown in NYC & Cali. Much better than the take-out places. First of all, everything tastes different, not like it all came out of the same wok. Really unique yummy stuff. Be adventurous!! ps. Always ask for "hot chile oil" w/ your dishes. Trust me.

Don't forget that China is a reaaaally big country, so there are lots of different types of chinese food. My favourite is szechuan, tends to be a lot hotter than 'typical' Chinese food.

Of course. It's like asking if real Mexican food is better than Taco Bell or Dell Taco.
