It sounds goofy, but the teenagers at the party in question loved it. Find a willing adult to dress up as either a palmist (palm reader) or really old hag. In the case of the palm reader, let everyone have their palms "read", but make sure the person doing it has some small bit of info on everyone there (like they got a "D" in english last week, or something fun--- nothing mean) and have that put into their "fortune". If you go with the really old hag, have her tell a really scary story. I made my own up, but there are lots on the market. Or have her just start the story, and have everyone "fill in a part" -- you will come up with some interesting things.
No one thought it would work here either - but it did and all the kids kept asking my daughter when the next party was.

set up one dark room and place different foods in bowls and make them feel of the foods and tell them they are different such as when i was a kid there were grapes in a bowl and they told us they were eyeballs, and so forth, it was pretty funny, make fun foods, popcorn balls, the recipe is really easy, if you dont have much money you can buy long cheap black trashbags and spread them out in a room where they will go from the ceiling to the floor where the trashbags will be on the sides and will create a path and make sure the room has just a little bit of lighting and have them walk through the room and have other people jumping out and scaring them, I did that to college students and some of them were screaming their heads off, it was pretty hilarious, when they go through the room try to find a halloween tape and play it, the ones with scary noises hehe, also find some dry ice, although sometimes dry ice tends to set off smoke alarms, but there are always solutions for that. Trust me all of these are fun, halloween events such as these will bring the kid out of anyone who thinks they may be too old for those things.

Have each one bring a pumpkin and knife and have a jack o lantern carving contest. Last year at our party, my grandson won for his creation "Poor and pitiful." It was the ugliest jack o lantern you've every seen. You can have apple bobbing if nobody minds getting their faces wet. Make caramel apples with toppings (another create your own). See if you can find some short stories about Halloween online and post them on a bulletin board. And a gag gift for best costume. Along with lots of snacks and sodas. You can also buy Halloween sounds CDs. Have fun.

There are plenty of things to do once you get them started such as bobbing for apples or you can get a Halloween pinata or even a prize for best costume. You could also do something with clues to get to a big bag of candy or whatever. Put the kids in groups of 3 (depending on how many there are) and hide clues outside that lead to another and another until they get to the prize.

Start a rumor one week before your party and only let a couple of people you trust in on it. Make it like a killer escaped from some prison ward in or around your community. The night of the party have the people who are in on it with you start doing things to scare people but they can't get caught so it has to be well planned out. Have someone call the house and breath and hang up. Someone stand in front of the window in a dark cloak but make sure they have a place to hide to get out of the way quick. Space it out through the night so people are scared but don't find out who it is till the end of the party. If you have a cat or a dog let a relative take it home the night of the party and let your friends think it came up missing the day before the party. Make sure you have the place well decorated for the mood of the evening. Don't over play it or your guest Will suspect something. Have your crew that is in on it think up ways to scare your guests all night. This could really work and be a lot of fun. You could even have your parents in on it and they could help with ways to make it seem real to your guests. Hope you have lots of fun and everyone enjoys them self.

Have a dress-up game party. Games like charades can be lots of fun with the right crowd. Use a theme for the costumes so people can compete and have prizes. The most inventive, the funniest, the scariest, etc.... and have activities that keep everyone going. Music is a must though. Lots of candy too!!!

well I have party's all the time for halloween what you need to do is have dancing like you said and you should set up some games to play like flirty ones ike pin the sticker on the ***. You also need some of your closer friends to spend the night. so you can have some extra fun. Dress up the house and make it a haunted house or make one out in the yard. just be creative nothing in impossible ^_^

i did this with my sunday school kids-they were elementary school aged but i think it's fun for all ages....
we took cardboard boxes and made them into a long tunnel that the kids had to crawl through. in each box on one side, we cut out a small square (large enough for the kids to stick their hands through). we set tables up outside each box by the hole with a bowl of "mystery substance" or object and they had to stick their hand in and try to guess what it is (they took a pen and paper into the tunnel with them to write it down). the person who got the most right won a prize.
the things i used in the bowls were:
-lots of those black plastic spider rings
-jello
-applesauce
-gummy worms
-vegetable oil
-fake spiderwebs
-buttons
-cornstarch mix (this stuff is cool because it's a liquid until you pick it up or touch it-then it turns back into powder)
To Make the Mix
Pour 1 cup of cornstarch into a shallow bowl or pan. Add 3/4 cup of water a little at a time, stirring as you go.
To Play
Show your toddler how to scoop some of the mixture into her hands and then roll it into a ball, much as you would roll a handful of cookie dough. The consistency is key here, so if your magic goo doesn't firm up when you roll it, add a little more cornstarch. Likewise, if it doesn't melt back out of your hands when you release the pressure, add some water, about 1/2 teaspoon at a time. (got this off a toddler website-sorry)
get creative with it.
