Fresh fruits and watery vegetable like cucumber can be taken raw. Some food has to be cooked so that the digestion will be easier and also any toxic substance in the food will be converted to an edible state.

I believe this answer would depend on the individual answering the question. While it is considered "civilized" to use some sort of heat to prepare food, when raw food was the only choice for "primitive man". In this day and age where food, can be purchased either raw or cooked, and then there are stages of raw and cooked. Then there is bacteria, some natural and others "man made" (personal interjection) which is present in food and which can only be killed with heat. But then we deal with all types of germs on a daily basis, so how you want your germs let it be rare, med-rare or well done, depends, again, on the individual. Now whether it is healthy or not, again, depends on the individual and their opinion of healthy eating.

Vegan raw foods (no meat or dairy) are the best for your health. When you cook fruits and vegetables, you lose most of the vitamins and nutrients, and also kill all of the live enzymes that are so important to our bodies health. Raw fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds in their natural states are full of live enzymes. Fresh fruits and vegetables (not from a can, as canning applies heat to the food), and nuts and seeds that have not been roasted are the most natural healthy foods you can eat. Any foods that are exposed to heat above 115 degrees are altered and devoid of live enzymes and nutrients. The longer it's exposed to heat (cooked), the more "dead" the food is, and the more nutrients that are lost.

Raw food seems to have the best nutrients. Raw eggs are more safe than dangerous, (I remember eating raw eggs with salt when I was a kid before going to school and never remember missing school because of sickness). Also, in some countries they eat raw meat "cooked" with lemon juice and no-one has died from it. (Specially strange compared to all the claims of food poisoning with cooked foods) What's really dangerous for you is sodas (they make formaldehyde in your digestive tract), and other "safe" foods that the FDA passes as not risky.

Some foods like nuts and such are still roasted so be careful. Fruits are nice raw or cooked. Fish is tricky. I would stay well clear of raw puffer fish. Also red kidney beans are poisonous if not cooked properly.

There are actually people who follow a "raw food diet" (look it up on wikipedia). I have met a few and they seemed fairly healthy.

There is nothing wrong with raw meat that has been reared, slaughtered, prepared, and stored correctly -- in fact, it is pretty damned delicious.

Um, not all raw food, but VEGETABLES are more healthy raw or lightly steamed because they lose their vitaman and mineral content when they are cooked/boiled.
