Most heart attacks occur in the morning when blood pressure rises suddenly after getting up. For that reason it's best to take blood pressure medication just before going to bed so that its effects will be most protective when arising.

I take it twice a day as prescribed. Once in the morning when I wake up and once in the evening. I spread the dosing out over 12 hours, unless my blood pressure is high before 12 hours, then I go ahead and take it early.

If you're only taking it once a day, the morning is the best time.

I take 25 mg Hydrochlorothiazide and 25 mg Atenolol for my elevated blood pressure. Because I was taking the Hydrochlorothiazide first and that is a diuretic, I was taking it first thing in the morning. When my doctor added the Atenolol, I just took that at the same time so I wouldn't forget. After I brush my teeth first thing in the morning, I take both pills. Check with your doctor for sure, depending on what type of medication you take may make a difference as to the best time of day to take it.

I take mine in the morning I use to take it just before bed and my doctor didnt have a problem with it however your bp drops at night anyway so I switched to the morning and this way I benefit more from the medication throughout the day.

So my suggestion would be take it in the morning. I didnt have much problem with feeling sleepy all day but that could be because I also take daily vitamin supplements which give you more energy throughout the day anyway.
