The fun part is in the shopping and if you follow a couple of very simple rules then your night will be fantastic. Get down to your local market and explore the food that they have on offer, think about what the food will feel and taste like and just use your imagination. When you look at it, what's the first thing that springs into your head? Ask for a sample to try, avoid strong flavours, unusual textures and heavy foods that will sit on your stomach, you'll want to feel comfortable later and you don't want to be popping off to brush your teeth at any point during your romantic encounter.

I think like several people here has said try some other exotic fruits like papaya, magoes, which has great colour, flavor and texture and dipping it in chocolate is never a bad thing.
If you want a more substantial meal, how about mediteranian tapas? Ham, olives, cheeses, prawns, feta cheese, herbs, brushetta, mozarella, tomato and basil pieces on a toothpick?
Remeber to include all the sences, smell, look, taste, feel, sound when you eat it, and you will be in for a winner.

Belgium truffles, Wonton, King Prawns (without shells), mini marshmallows, sushi all spring to mind. Nigella Lawson has a great recipe for ribs in the valentines section of her feast book which was a hit when I did them. There is something very primitive about ripping meat from the bone with your teeth, its also very masculine so watch the testosterone rise!!

Make a chocolate fondue. Serve strawberries, tiny pieces of angel food cake, biscotti, apples, bananas, kiwi, etc. Keep everything small.
Also, do a platter of cheeses, different grapes and crackers.
Create an atmosphere with candles and flowers.

They are called either Angels or Devils on Horseback. Pitted prunes wrapped in bacon secured by a toothpick. Grilled until the bacon is just cooked. Delicious. Enjoy and good luck.

invest in a mini fondue set usually 15 to 20 bucks. the chocolate and fruit is a great starter. you may not even make it to dinner with the chocolate thing. no champagne i have heard it makes some people really gassy.

Some sliced bread with a cheese selection would be good - and I'd switch champagne for regular white wine....champagne is overrated (in my opinion).

Raspberries are delicious and go well with strawberries. Bagel bites or pizza rolls are delicious, just make sure they are cool. Small croisants or sandwiches are good if you want to be full. Mmmmm...delicious.

Switch from Champagne as like someone else has said its very over rated.
Asparagus (if you like it) is excellent and quite provocative too!!
