Okay, I'm confused--are you asking about herpes, which is HSV or are you asking about HPV, the virus that causes genital warts? Either way, check out :

In the event that you are talking about herpes...genital herpes can be caused by either type 1 or type 2, which are two strains of herpes viruses. Either one can be located on the mouth/oral or genitals and either one can be passed between the two locations. The only difference between the two strains, in regards to the way that they present on the genitals, is that type 1 infections on the gentials tend to be more milder and people have less frequent outbreaks.

You can have one or the other on the genitals. It is rare as the say but you can have HSV1 on the genitals just are well as having HSV2 on the mouth. What people don't understand is that herpes is herpes no matter where it is. Having a cold sore on the mouth and/or having a sore on the genitals is all contiguous. One is not better than the other.

most genital herpes infections are due to hsv-2 while oral herpes are hsv-1. however, 30% of genital herpes are due to hsv-1. people with genital hsv 1 tend to have much fewer outbreaks than those with hsv 2. if you want to know which you have, ask the doctor for an hsv antibody test, the culture from the blisters only tells if the blister is herpes, cannot differentiate bt 1 and 2. need blood work for that

Genital herpes is caused by a virus — either herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) or, less commonly, herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1).

HSV-2 is the virus that most commonly causes genital herpes. This virus is usually spread through close skin-to-skin contact or via genital secretions during sex, e.g. during vaginal intercourse or anal intercourse.

HSV-1 is the virus that normally causes cold sores, but it can also cause genital herpes. The virus can spread during oral sex from the skin around the mouth, where it has caused cold sores, to the skin on or around another person's genitals, where it can cause genital sores.

Hope this helps!

herpes 1- lips/mouth
Herpes 2- genital region
only diff. is the location and also primary vs. secondary infection so basically type 1 genital region is not easily spread and does not have as many outbreaks whereas type 2 genital is more serious and easier to catch.
