AIDS actually isn't trasmitted. It's the virus that causes AIDS that is tranmitted - HIV.

HIV is transmitted by 3 different ways:

1. Sexual route, which includes vaginal, oral and anal sex.

2. Blood or blood product route, which can be a number of things including intravenous drug users, blood transfussions (although less common with the blood being screened now) and even health workers like nurses getting accidently stuck by a needle used on an HIV infected patient (believe me, this actually happens). I work in a hospital pharmacy and we have a "needle stick kit" specially for nurses or other health care workers who accidently stick themselves.

3. Mother-to-child transmission, which can happen while the fetus is still in utero or during breast feeding.

HIV has been found at low concentrations in the saliva, tears and urine of infected individuals, but the risk of transmission by these secretions is negligible.

AIDS is transmitted through an exchange of body fluids, (semen, breastmilk, blood) and by sharing infected needles. There has been no evidence of transmitting AIDS by kissing.

There is a way for it to be transmitted via kissing. If the infected has an open sore on his/her mouth, or is bleeding and you happen to kiss them. In that case, you also have to have a cut inside of your mouth for it to pass into your blood stream. However very rare, it IS possible.

Not from kissing. here's more:

HIV can be transmitted from an infected person to another through:

Blood (including menstrual blood)
Semen
Vaginal secretions
Breast milk
Blood contains the highest concentration of the virus, followed by semen, followed by vaginal fluids, followed by breast milk.
