You should not have unsafe sex with a person who is HIV positive! We're talking about an illness that brings death if untreated and is incurable.

The treatments cost $10 to $20 thousand each and every year you remain alive.

Strictly, no, a person who is HIV positive does not infect every person who is a sex partner as a result of each and every instance of intercourse. But each of those partners is dancing with the grim reaper.

Not guaranteed to get it 100 percent.
As I am living proof of that.
I engaged in intercourse with someone that I had known for 10 years but only decided to take the "friendship" further. Well after all that time knowing him, we made the move to intercourse and he never told me he was HIV positive. We had since went seperate ways and it was the day of my 28th birthday that I read in the paper that he was being charged with not diclosing his HIV status to former partners. There was a number to call and the number for the Sexual Helath Clinic to go and get checked out. So I did the test and the first one was inconclusive b/c I had had too much to drink the night before(bday celebrations), so I had to go back again. The waiting killed me, I went through a not wanting to live if i got it too, helping whoever I could by being a guinea pig for vaccines. But in the end it did come back negative and I thanked my lucky stars. Not something I am obviously proud of, but it was unprotected and I did not end up with it. And I have learned my lesson......trust no one but yourself. I do hope that you go and get tested though. There is a window period of 12 weeks after your encounter that it will not show up. So you will need to go again if you went recently and it showed up negative.

Good Luck!!
P.S. If you end up Positive, not knowing where you are from but if you are from Canada, you need to disclose to every person that you come in contact with, being it sexually or medically or even if you got into a fight and your fluids were exposed, you have to tell them. If you don't it is Aggravated Sexual Assault.

No, it is NOT very likely through heterosexual contact. If you sleep with someone whom you KNOW to be HIV+, your chances of contracting the virus are about 10 in 10,000.

HIV is a very delicate virus, and has to have very specific conditions to survive.

Things that would put you in a higher risk catagory would be the presence of any other STDs, and an open wound in your genital area.

If you have any doubt, though, I would go get tested. It would put your mind at ease.

Possible, highly possible yes. There are two strains of HIV, AIDS, so depending on which, you could get symptoms within days of exposure, if not the virus might not show up for up for three to five years I think. Some possible signs and symptoms include; HIV/AIDS dementia (usually has a rapid onset), extrapyramidal symptoms resembling parakinsonism without resting tremors,
ataxia (no coordination), leg tremors, confusion, tuberculosis, esophageal or recurrent genital candidiasis, and not limited to, Human papilloma virus infection.

no it is not gauranteed that you get it from one time but is very like that you did. Did you know that hiv is smaller than what a condom stops. a condom block 6 microns and bigger and hiv is around 4 microns.

so if you look at it this way there really is't anything such as safe sex and the only to avoid getting them is do not sleep around.

No, you have to do it 10 times with that person before you have to worry.

ofcourse not, but the possibilities are quite high and it can take up to 15 years to show up by then you have infected hundreds or,, well a dozen people. you need to get checked every month for years to insure you didnt get it from that one time.

You might as well figure on it. If you have or think that you have, get an HIV test. If you are thinking about doing it just once, don't.
Please.
