Move in 2 in. from the outer edge and cut across. Then slice 1 in. pieces of cake. Now move in another 2 in. and slice again.

The way I cut them for petite fore years ago, is to use a nylon string. I used fishing line. You hold it tight at both ends and pull it through the cake. Then you drop one end and pull it out at the bottom. I may not be describing it very well, but the trick is not to bring it back up through the cake after you make the slice. This make the neatest slices.

Try fishing line or dental floss. Cut a piece 6 inches longer than the cake, pull taut and slice through. Quick, easy, and not a huge mess.

When you go to cut it, keep a glass of warm water and a towel handy. Dip the knife in the water, cut, dip, wipe. Repeat. Less crumbs that way.

I would try a pizza cutter. Be sure to wet it first to the frosting doesn't stick.
