Three main symptoms of a heart attack:
1. Pressure or pain in the centre of the chest, lasting more than a few minutes or going away and coming back
2. Pain spreading to the shoulders, neck or arms
3. Chest discomfort combined with light-headedness, fainting, sweating, nausea or shortness of breath
Other common warning signs of heart attack include unusual chest, stomach or abdominal pain, nausea or dizziness, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, unexplained anxiety, weakness or fatigue, palpitations, cold sweat or paleness.

You need to go to the doctor immediately. Though this may seem like something you can ignore their is a definite cause to your problem and that will only get worse with time.

Orthopnea is when an individual experiences a short, terryifying shortness of breath during sleep and must stand up in order to breathe, it is a sign of severe heart failure. Those with coronary heart disease may experience severe chest pain and a shortness of breath.

Basically, something is probably wrong with your heart and you need to go see a doctor. He will know what kind of questions to ask and will be able to do some tests to find out what the problem is.

Just because you haven't had asthma in the past, doesn't mean you don't have it now. Asthma isn't something you're born with. It could be a number of things, and it doesn't sound good. I'd get to the doc to get checked out as soon as you can.
