I don't think they would feel any better about your friend; its not just the eating, its the killing of animals they object to.

First, not all vegans hate hunters and it's not only vegans that hate hunters.
So, why do some people hate hunters? Well I think it generally comes from an ethical point of view, that we don't have a right to take lives of other sentient organisms where it is not necessary (people define 'necessary' according to their own terms). I think most people would consider your 'hunting buddy' to have killed an animal without any real need (though some would argue his enjoyment was sufficient to justify).
I'm a vegetarian because my views on necessary killing are a bit tighter than most people's. However, if I were to eat meat, I would do so from farms where welfare standards were high. The view that eating meat from hunting is more virtuous seems odd to me - if all meat for eating came from wild animals, there would very soon be no large animals left in the world, as 6 billion people would very quickly finish them all off. The only way people can eat meat sustainably is through farming. We just need to keep welfare standards up so animals don't suffer unnecessarily.

You making a statement about all vegans hating all hunters is foolish. SOME vegans dislike all hunters, but most just have a problem with the ones that do it for sport. It's wrong to categorize a whole group of people by what a percentage of those people do.

the point is that animals are being tortured and murdered for no point
its got nothing to do with wetha the animal is being eaten the animal s being killed
some vegans belive that killing animals is cruel so it doesnt matter if they r being eaten or not the animals still dead for no reason
"It's not just hunters - some of the most sociopathic, cold-blooded mentally unstable people I have ever met were vegans. They would kill you and your children for eating meat. The cowardly actions of the ALF, etc, speak for themsleves. It's not OK to eat a sausage, but it's OK to dig up someones' dead
mother"
how many people do that?
im vegetarian goin vegan an i think that human rights are important the most important thing but animals should have rights too not "gibe all animals an education" but not killing them
or destroying thier homes

First of all, while I do not advocate the consumption of any animal, I would much rather people hunt to obtain their food than to buy meat from the stores. At least in a hunting scenario, the animal has a chance. It lives a free and natural life, unlike the animals from factory farms.
However, killing for sport is appalling to me. If you told me your friend took down the deer, and his family ate off of it all year, so they didn't have to purchase meat from the store, then I would be more accepting. But, your friend took the life from a creature for not other reason than to take a picture with it. What a terrible waste.
Many hunters at least have the deer processed and donated to a food bank or soup kitchen. Maybe you could suggest that to him...
Again, I am a vegan, and find too many reasons to avoid meat, personally.
As for some of the other answers, I see they are made out of ignorance. Is the ALF so terrible?? Who have they ever injured or killed?? That's right, no one. They free animals and burn down labs. They don't hurt people. But, I guess the same people that see them as terrorists would have seen Harriet Tubman and the underground railroad as terrorists, too.

Vegans dislike hunters because they do not use any animal products, and they feel that killing animals for any reason is cruel and bad. It is not just because they don't eat meat. Remember, there is a reason that they don't eat meat and don't use things like leather or fur.

Well, im vegetarian but i dont have any problems with hunters. They do it because they want to and i dont really like their hobby or job but i try and avoid them. I think mostly because of course vegans dont like animals getting killed! Isnt that just quite obvious?

I'm a vegan because I don't want to kill animals, not just because I don't want to eat them. I don't wear any animal produce or buy any products that have animal products in them or are tested on animals.
I disagree with hunting because I don't think we have a right to kill animals especially just for sport.

Never mind, go and have some crispy road kill cooked in lard (shortening) and a cold beer, son that will cheer you up no end!!! Or you could even treat yourself to a KFC - if you are up to the intense 15 minute drive for the one Colonel's special fried slaughtered poultry bucket thingies!!! I'd invite you around for supper to prove there are no hard feelings but I'm not sure they'd let you in to England - SORRY and all that!!

i would say its not just vegans who dislike hunters but most people dislike hunters, that's why the government is banning blood sports, hunting just for the kill is wrong, maybe if we hunted the hunters, lets see how they like it.

the idea of vegan life is to avoid everything that causes suffering for animals or takes advantage of them.. and if you shoot someone (in this case for example a rabbit), it'll make him/her/it suffer... And you really think that it's better kill and then NOT to eat it...?
By the way... You can have shooting as your hobby without needing to kill :)
