I put out a pile of cut up potatoes on a tree stump to attract deer and I have watched them eat raw potatoes.

Eating raw potatoes is fine but there is a risk of eating potatoes that are sprouting as they produce a cyanide, Potatoes that have a greenish tinge to them are close to sprouting but should not be eaten. On North Sea Oil Platforms, any greenish or sprouting potatoes are considered contaminated foods and discarded. In the military the same rules apply but now many potato products are freeze-dried, or frozen using special techniques to prevent that risk. You should rinse off the excess starch...starch is not dangerous...but a bit slimy...and it is not toxic. It will not cause stomach cramps if you ingest small amounts of raw potatoes. During famines, many people ate raw potatoes to simply survive, so the uninformed think that potatoes must be cooked are simply clueless. Many vegetables can be eaten raw without ill-effects and as an example is sweet corn...it too is very starchy but some people like it that way. A few vegetables need cooking to render them safe for consumption, i.e. cashews, manioc and even cassava, breadfruit needs cooking to reduce the starches into digestible forms....but eat a few slices of raw potato and enjoy a sweet earthy taste.

Any vegetable is more nutritious when eaten raw! It's just that many people don't like the taste of a raw potato. It won't hurt you at all! Remember, the best part is the skin!

Yes, and did you know that if you hold your nose, you can't tell the difference between raw potato and raw apple! Half your sense of taste is in your nose!

I think a small amount of them could be beneficial. Most raw food makes sense. I've eaten them.
