Perhaps it would be best to simply give up the acid reflux problem! I take garlic and cayenne pepper capsules, put cayenne pepper on ALL my food, even sandwiches, AND I stuff my dirty rice and even hamburgers with cheyenne flakes. I now no longer have acid reflux ... or perhaps it helps that I don't have a snack before going to bed. Nolte is right ... the Boniva one is the best. How about the one they just had me on for blood clots ... Lovenox. It didn't really make me Love n Ox but I am always coming up with new jokes about the name. Perhaps it means something in French (where it's made) ... or not. :-) I AM Dartagnon Alive and Well

Garlic, or Milk, but you may need to take something to repair some damage *("Sucralfate is a cytoprotective agent that is used to prevent further damage and promote healing process that the acid reflux has caused"). Have you been diagnosed with GERD, just having acid reflux, or a conclusion you came to? If so you may need to see if a Gastric acid-pump inhibitor would help.
Acidphex, or Protonix .. I personally suggest going with the natural product(s).
* does not inhibit the release of acid.
Only for short term treatment and ask your doctor

I am on Omeprazole. It is the generic for Nexium. It has been the best and cheapest so far. I used to wake up in the middle of the night with acid reflux, but not any more. I take the pill twice a day. It's 20mg.
NOW, if I abuse myself and eat late at night it will bother me, but it is minor compared to before this medication.

Aciphex has worked wonders for me! I have been taking it for almost six months now. I woke up in the middle of the night thinking I was having a heartattack or asthma attack. I was in the hospital, had test after test run...nothing. Ladies, this is no joke...loosen up that bra in the evenings or take it off completely when you get home from work. It will help with the indigestion. I also stopped eating heavy after 5 p.m., cut back on dairy products, and increased my fluids. I rarely awaken in the middle of the night. Previous to the medicine I thought I was having female hormone problems. During my pregnancy, I had reflux really bad. I guess it never went away actually. I was just ignoring the symptoms..until I ended up in the e.r. with chest pains.

Prevacid and Nexium both worked for me. The Nexium had fewer side effects. But, the biggest thing that worked for me on a long-term basis was to cut out most of the fat from my dinner meal and later day snacks and cut down on meat and desserts. Your body needs a lot of acid to process things like fats and meat, so you are asking for trouble eating them late in the day. If you must have them, just switch those things to your noon meal and eat better and lighter at night. It will do wonders, and you won't need all of the drugs.

I take Nexuim but there's also a pill called Prevacid. Also if you have reflux really bad you might want to stay away from a lot of acidy drinks.

Nexium is recommended if tolerated. Zantac stops the stomach acid, but does not address the problem.
