I'm throwing a pirate party, without spending too much. What are some good ideas for decoration?

Pirates were abundant in the tropics so when my wife and I throw the same type of party, we hoist a pirate flag, put out tiki torches, find a parrot pinata, use wood and/or bamboo bowls for mixed nuts, etc. Anything along those lines. Pirate and tiki themes are easily mixed.

Arg, ye need to construct newspaper pirate hats. Also have a skull and crossbone flag.

For a kid's pirate birthday party get some treasure (prize gifts) for the kids. Put it in a little chest (toy box) if you have one. Decorate everything in black, silver and gold. Black streamers, silver highlights and gold (chocolate) coins. The mates will need swords and eye patches.

For an adult pirate party you'll need plenty of rum. Maybe you can rent a parrot from a pet shop. Basically go tropical with some pirate highlights.

Go to some of your local charity shops or thrift shops and look for old looking mugs--pewter or the like would be great, and pick up some "silver" platters--you can either use them as is, or spray paint gold to make the look like something from a treasure chest and you can get a ton of stuff really cheap--use them to serve your guests from, put pretzel sticks or bread sticks in the mugs, buy some of that chocolate candy that looks like gold coins and spread it out on your table. Throw some seashells around and hang some old lanterns with candles. I could think of a million more ways you can decorate, but see what you find at the thrift strores and party stores and go from there. Have fun!

Is it a kid or adult party, day or night, indoor or outdoor or both????????
If ur crafty....I made large parrot pinatas using 2 balloons for each bird and hung them from the ceilings. Or u could buy them. Throw gold coins and fake pearl strands (like xmas tree strands) on the buffet table and use a rope fishing net as part of the table cover. Tiki torches for outside. You need to make and paint treasure chests out of cardboard boxes.
