I have been a vegetarian for about seventeen years now. You can eat everything your carnivorous counterparts eat, just mix it up with meatless options. I highly recommend Morning Star Farms products. I do not like Boca products. They taste like cardboard. Morning Star Farms make great chik patties (which are made of soy, not birds), they also have a great crumble that you can use in Chili or meatless loaf. Those are three things that I make that my meat eating friends never realize are not real meat.

You can actually find these really great meatless meals at most of the major groceries. I know Kroger and Meijer both have vegetarian sections now.

People worry about the protein issue, but you can substitute any of the meat alternatives. If you go lactose-ova you will still have eggs and milk in your diet. Beans are a great source of protein. Some people wory about iron, but you actually get more iron from green leafy veggies like spinach and broccoli, brocoli is also a good source of calcium if you are not doing milk.

If you are not doing milk and going vegan I recommend Silk and Westsoy brand soy milks. Tofu Scramblers are sold in a box and they are a great alternative to eggs.

If you are going vegan you will have to become a label reader, because there are hidden amounts of eggs and milk in all kinds of things.

The key is eating balanced. It takes some practice, and some thought, but before long it will become second nature and you will find that you feel so much better.

Let me know if you need any additional information. Good luck!

First of all, good luck. You need to start reading the ingredients on EVERYTHING you buy. I almost bought some broccoli soup, but the first ingredient was chicken stock.

For protein, I suggest tofu (it takes on the flavors of what you cook it with) or some other soy product if you're tolerant, and learning to season with vegetable bullion. Since I'm sick, I can't have chicken noodle soup, but I made veggie bullion with some noodles and chunks of tofu and it works just as nice.

There's all kinds of stuff, like Boca burgers and there's a brand called Amy's, I think, that's all vegetarian.

Going out to restaurants is really tricky. At my restaurant, there's very limited as to what I can eat because of chicken stock or lard, so be sure to ask a kitchen manager/chef as to the ingredients or you will get very sick once you are weaned from animal proteins. Trust me on this. :-)

Looks like Kittyums.... Covered this question quite well.

Vegitarian is a healthy choice, but there are lots of vegitarians that still eat chips, cookies, cake, ice cream and lots of other junk food. I hope your going for health versus not eating meat.

Vegan is not eating any animal products period versus not eating meat.

Never mind the people saying to eat meat and eat like humans... you are eating like a human. Vegitarian his mostly how humans ate for 10,000's of years. With additions of meat from small animals like birds, squirrels, rabbits... a very small part of the diet. We evoled on these foods.

Junk foods and meat with ever meal is a recent development in the last hundred years or so. As everyone can see.... by death and health desease our bodies are not adapted to this type of feeding.

You will be seeing the nay sayers in their hospital beds and graves.... while you are still enoying good health with your grand children.

Total vegetarian? Do you mean vegan? Unless your body doesn't digest protein well or you have some rare condition that stores huge amounts of iron in your blood my advice is eat like a human being not a cow!

http://www.vegcooking.com/ has all the meals you'll ever need.

A medium sized avocado has more protein than a large steak.

Any type of nut includes tons of protein.

Walnuts and especially yeast extract such as marmite have Vitamin B12, and they are the only things in the world that do except animal products.

Morning Star Farms stuff is good, but not Boca.

Tofu and TVP are awesome.

http://www.HealthyLiving.com has more abut ther things you can do to help the animals.

Paulina be careful. do no longer permit this substitute right into a psychological ailment. our bodies are extra in a position than maximum persons think of of destroying remote places products that harm us. in fact each little thing that enters our physique (even water) is as deadly as rattlesnake poison. Why do you think of our digestive equipment has various defenses? abdomen acid, effectual digestive partitions, oils from glands to interrupt down food, reflexes like vomiting and coughing. Then if something breaches those defenses we've the all effectual immune equipment to look after it. additionally pay extra interest to what you placed into your physique. organic and organic produce is plenty extra secure than a carcass rotting in a grimy meat production unit which they slap a meat label on and phone it food. So be extra conscious. you do no longer starve in an afternoon. i'd rather no longer consume for an afternoon than be compelled to consume something like quickly food or meat.
