My friends and I decided to get together every now and then to have fancy smashy dinner parties so we can pretend we're all rich and famous and whatnot. Because I'm usually somewhat restricted at these parties, they want me to throw a strictly vegan dinner party for them, so they can try some things that I can eat and really enjoy, and to be introduced into some new food options. I have a lot of recipes, but does anyone have suggestions or plans for an appitizer, full meal deal, dessert, and drinks that are vegan and compliment each other nicely. I'm pretty good as far as cooking goes, just not so much in knowing what food assortments go the best together. Thanks!

I like the idea (above) with lasagna...I made a vegan lasagna for a dinner last weekend. I made it so that I could enjoy the company of others while not putting the hostess out with my vegan lifestyle.
I was surprised that others tried it & complimented the taste (spinach with a tofu mixture).
Salad & garlic knots would compliment the meal nicely. Perhaps a dessert of something chocolately??? I found a dessert that sounds good: ULTIMATE CHOCOLATE TRUFFLE
WITH CRANBERRY SYRUP...I will be trying it for sure.
Good luck!

Lots of different "ethnic'' options--Italian might be a tofu/veg lasagna, ww crusty french garlic bread with olive oil, salad, raw munchies like olives, etc and fruit sorbet for dessert. Indian: rice, dahl, fried bread, a curried vegetable dish, nuts and fruit for dessert. Asian: miso soup, brown rice, stir-fry veggies with tofu or tempeh, sweet mochi for dessert. Get a good cookbook... or check out the internet. Not only many recipes, but meal suggestions too.

Hummus is always a good one to go with. For a main course you can make stuffed peppers with spinach and soy or rice cheese. Mushroom caps might be more affordable though. Grilled eggplant in olive oil is always good. Oh and if you want to cheat a little soup is a great first course. Organic Amy's has a butternut Squash soup that is to die for and its Vegan! Good Luck.

I'm mexican and grew up eating mexican foods,so I like to modify foods that I'm familiar with.
Appetizer:Chips and salsa
Full Meal:Tostadas(flat taco shell, spread refried beans on top,top with chopped lettuce and chopped tamatoes or other chopped things onions. Then put tapatio or taco bell mild sauce on top)
Chili beans and spanish rice:I'm sure you can find vegetarian chili beans out of the can at your local grocery store,so you'll only have to cook the rice,Rice a Roni has a box of spanish rice and you just have to cook the rice and add taco sauce to it.then serve the chili beans
Menudo:It's a mexican soup made with chili, hominy, tripe and pig feet, but i only make it with chili and hominy. Its too long to write so I'll leave it up for you to find the recipe
dessert:A really simple dessert is sweet tortillas, spread margirane over tortillas and top with sugar and cinnamon then fry it,i like to serve them with banana smoothie
empanadas
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup shortening
6 tablespoons water
2 1/2 cups peeled, cored and sliced apples
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 cup water
To make dough: In a medium mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in the shortening till pieces are the size of small peas. Add a small amount of water to slightly moisten. Form dough into a ball. Roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thick and cut into 4-inch circles. Lightly flour both sides of circles.
To make fruit filling: In a saucepan combine fruit, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Heat over medium heat until hot, thoroughly mixing.
Place a large spoonful of one of fruit mixtures to the center of a dough circle. Place another circle on top. Fasten the two circles together by pressing the edges with a fork. These may then be baked in a preheated 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) until golden brown.
drinks:I usually serve with apple juice or mexican sodas.
That's what I would serve,hope i could help,tell me how it goes. :)

Both are good for you, each fruit/vegetable has different vitamins. Thus as more variety, as better. Vegetables have generally less sugar than fruits.
