last weekend I was terrified of collapsing, on a Saturday of course. I wrote a "statement" not a question, per say about ER's in general. I would like to apologize. I commend your desire to be in that profession in the first place, I always wanted to be a nurse...I just can't stand needles. Please accept my appology and thank you for being there, at all hours, everyday. (if you can't tell, I am less stressed and felling better now) My best to you. Diana

I am glad you are feeling better... in answer to your statement of a few days ago, "fast-tracking" does not mean getting you out as fast as possible, it merely means that when there is a particularly busy time in an ED, one or two of the doctors can run a sort of "clinic", where they see the patients further down the waiting list, as they may be waiting a long time in ordinary circumstances. In the ED that I work at, we do this everyday, as we generally see a lot of lower categories (ie cat 4 + 5's), categories 1,2 + 3 are in need of almost immediate medical attention. The doctors left on the floor are expected to see these patients, and the "fast-tracking" staff (doctors and nurses), can see those people that would be waiting a long time otherwise. Please don't think that because you get "fast-tracked", it means that your worries or health concerns are of no importance.

Thankyou for your recent letter, we don't get a lot of thankyou's generllay, so when we do, we really appreciate them, and are glad to help.

I would also like to thank you for your apology. I didn't see the original statement, but I have to say, at least for me, I understand that my patients and their families are stressed because they are in the hospital. I'm an ICU nurse, so I really do see people at their worst. I don't take it personally, I just allow them to vent as long as they don't get out of hand. Often the most difficult patients/families come back and say thanks. Apology accepted, and thanks for taking the time to post this. I'm glad you are feeling better.
