right, gonna jump on my high horse.

If a person says they are a vegetarian - they should not eat anything that comes from animals - anything at all - you can't call yourself a vegetarian and then eat things with animal products in like non veggie cheese or products with gelatin in or anything like that. If you don't like animals dieing to feed you - you shouldn't eat fish either or eggs.

People who don't like meat and prefer not having a big steak for their tea I have absolutely no issue with, there's nothing wrong in not enjoying the taste of meat just as there is nothing wrong, in my mind, with liking to eat meat.

It;s just the people that claim to be veggie and then eat meat products THAT REALLY ANNOY ME! Don't call yourself a Vegetarian if you're not one!

It's not extreme at all, it's part of being a strict vegetarian.

The food industry certainly makes it feel extreme though, I am so sick of reading labels and finding that stuff in EVERYTHING. Why do they use it when so many people are vegetarians these days? I'll only eat things with a V on them, and even then if it's not the veg society seedling you have to wonder... they don't make it easy for us- you should be proud of yourself for remaining true to your beliefs, most veggies I know can't be bothered to be that strict.

I don't think your extreme at all, sweetheart!
My Parents are vegetarians (I'm not, couldn't live without a big fat burger!) and they don't eat Gelatine. I think you would be a hippocrite if you were Vegetarian and ate Gelatine, it sort of defies the point of not eating meat!
What you choose to eat, or not eat, is entirely up to you!

I eat dairy products, but no meat or fish since 1970. Gelatin is one of those things that can be hard to avoid, but you can do it. There's nothing wrong with choosing not eat something.

I think the problem comes when you need medication. There are supplements in vegetable gel capsules, but that is not an option for prescription medications.

Do you know how they make gelatine? It involves boiling hooves and bones up to make the disgusting stuff. Anyone who wants to eat that is fine by me, but I'm certainly not going to put the stuff in my body! If that's an extreme reaction, so be it.

i was raised vegetarian and never ate gelatine growing up. this included not eating big foots or roasted marshmallows! yes, as a child i thought it was extreme, because i just wanted to fit in with the other kids!

now i don't think it's extreme, i think it's staying true to your principles. there's nothing wrong with that! i respect it.

and besides, agar agar gives you just the same results without the animal product.

btw, i eat seafood now, so i sneaked in with the non-vegetarians on this one! :)

be well!

Of course not.

I'm not a vegetarian, my 2 sister are, I totally respect what they choose to do, they would not eat gelatin, anyone who does is not a vegetarian anyway.

If you don't eat meat why the hell would you eat something made from the bones and hooves of young animals.

Good on you, it has no nutritional value anyway.

If you're a vegan, then it would be expected that you wouldn't eat anything with gelatine (gelatin?), as (from what I recall), it's made of animal hooves. I could be mistaken.

I don't think you're "extreme" for not eating anything with gelatine.

Every veggie and vegan doesn't eat Geletine, they wouldnt be veggie otherwise. People who claim to vbe veggies but take tablets, eat thier favourite sweet with geletine in it are not veggies, simple as that.

Knowing the answers that people typically post here, why are you opening yourself up to such abuse ?

By the way other answerers, ,there is no such thing as "Strict Veggie", you are either veggie, or not.

Ive managed without meat and meat products for 27 years now, with no suppliements and I generally do a lot of manual work on our arable farm. So its not a problem

Of course its not extreme.

No, a vegetarian doesn't eat animals - gelatine is produced from dead animals so why should you eat it?

There are plenty of vegetarian gelling agents available now.

PS. I am not a vegetarian.
