That's basically getting something just because it's expensive. It's something isn't necessarily worth it's price, but it's just expensive or is a limited edition. You just get that feel good factor owning something like that, being a handbag, a car, a pen etc. You pay for it 'cos the guy next to you might not afford something like that and that puts you in the league of the privilleged few.
After a while you just look back and feel like you've been suckered....
