The spices in Madras dilate the cells in the mucus lining of the nasal passages causing mucus to run more freely. This is through a combination of ingestion and inhalation when eating. The spicier the curry the greater the effect! Also some people are more sensitive than others. This is also why people sweat when eating spicy foods as they dilate blood vessels in the body releasing more heat as blood flow increases under the skin. Curry is often recommened for people with colds as they are a natural decongestant and also have anti-bacterial/viral properties (eg Madras has: chilli, cinnamon.,cloves..) Tumeric is a very good anti-inflammatory as well and chilli and cinnamon lower blood sugar.
If the running is annoying you put some ice on the bridge of your nose and it should stop.

Ha ha! Spicy foods make your body react by trying to expell it from your body (the hotness in peppers is supposed to be a defence mechanism of the plant, after all). So sweating, and runny noses are normal. This is also why spicy foods are favoured in hot countries, because it will induce sweating, hence cooling off your body!!
