under 6. People in US use mgl and under 110 (or 100 depending on who you ask) is normal. In other countries they use mmol, hence the reading of 8.6. It's not just the poster that needs educating!!! So...when some one is posting mmol, which would look like the person is dead in the US, multiply that number by 18. In this case 8.6mmol would be close to 155 mgl in US. If someone out of the US is wondering how a poster who is using mgl compares to what you're used to reading in mmol, divide Mgl with mmol...like 100 is 5.6 mmol.

OK This is what you need to know.
Based on UK Levels normal is between 5-7. For a Diabetic a reading of 8.6 is NOT high and it is ok. Over 10 is high. You do not need to call the Doctor. You only call your Doctor when your reading is 15+ and even then they will not do anything in UK.
3.9 Is low blood sugar. Over 10 is high blood sugar. Within 2 hours of eating a meal your blood sugar will be that level.
If you are NOT diabetic that get checked. But if you just eaten then that is why it is 8.6. So 8.6 is high for a NON-DIABETIC. For a Diabetic it is fine.

I'm assuming that this is the a1c test and 8.6 means that you been out of control for a couple of month usually the a1c is done every 3 moth and it should be 4.5 to 4.7 more than that is not good but if you can at least get a 5.0 is still an improvement . On the glucose test or the blood sugar level which you can do at home with a glucometer they just lower the level99 is the highest but if you are diabetic I will say that even a 115 is all good .Take care

It depends how old you are etc. The normal for most people is between 4 and 7, but 8.6 isn't too far out. This might be normal for you, but it is possible that you are developing type 2 diabetes. I think that you are not classed as type 2 unless your fasting glucose level is above 10, but you need to check this with your dr. Unlike type 1 diabetes, type 2 is mainly caused by life style - it would probably do you no harm to reduce the amount of sugar in your diet - it might not stop you getting diabetes, but it might greatly reduce its progress. It's important to remember that there's not just sugar in 'bad' food like chocolate and sweets - drink diet fizzy juice if at all because non-diet juice contains heaps of sugar, as do fresh fruit juices. Maybe you could reduce the other carbs that you eat too, like bread and rice - but remember lower carb sometimes means higher fat, so watch out for that too. The most important thing is that you speak to your dr - if you are not satisfied with what they have said see another dr - they might be able to give you some healthy eating tips, or they might just say that you're in good health and not to worry about it - they are the people who will know best because they can see you and discuss everything with you. Good luck.

it is between 4 and 7.
but it does fluctuate during the day after you have eaten and sometimes it depends on what you eat.
I had my doc ring me urgently for a blood sugar test because a blood test done at the hospital for something else showed very high sugar. When I had it tested for the sugar it was normal. It was high because, I had not long had breakfast when the original test was done, tea, toast with marmalde, hence the sugar.
if you are really worried then see your doc for a chat and ask them to do a test. some chemists do tests free of charge, just pop in and ask.
both my parents have diabetes, my mum's sugar level through the day can sometimes reach as high as 16 or 17, before it comes down.

Normal blood sugar levels should be between 4 & 7. If you are over this then you need to get a 'Fasting Glucose' blood test done to check for diabetes.
There are other reasons for your level being high such as having recently eaten a meal which is high in natural or added sugars. If you did a BM test by pricking your finger perhaps your hands weren't clean.
If you are concerned then it's best to visit your GP.

the acceptable range for blood sugars is 4-7mmol/l, if you are diabetic and have been for a while then a reading of 8.6 could be deemed as acceptable by some teams -
the key thing is to maintain the levels below 10mmol/l.
remember to balance blood sugar with diet and exercise.

Me being diabetic,I was told that between 5.5 and 9.0 is normal.Although everyone is different. When my blood sugar goes below 7.0 -I feel weak and dizzy and only feel better when I get a bit of sugar in my system. But I'd say that your blood sugar of 8.6 is in a safe range and if your still not sure check with your doctor.I hope this helps you.Take care and have a great day.
