My friend is suffering from diabetes and can't afford her meds. She has insurance but even still the medicine is over $275 a month. She is single and is working 2 jobs now just to get by. She is on pills and shots. Is there a program that will help her with the costs even though she has insurance? Also, are there any good alternative meds out there that might be just as affective and safe but don't cost as much? FYI she lives in Texas.

She should contact the pharmaceutical company (s) directly. If you can't afford the medications you need (and you qualify) you can get your medications from them for free.

Tell her to call her pharmacy to get the names of the manufacturers of her necessary medications and then go to their websites for her.

She can be her own best friend and reduce the use of her medications by following a strict diabetic diet and exercising on a daily basis. As for the cost, I suggest she contact the manufacturer as many of them offer assistance in purchasing their medications.
